Speaker urges US to quit hostile attitude to Iran

"Nowadays, the US officials express willingness to hold talks with Iran, so they should quit their hostile behavior towards Iran," Haddad-Adel told reporters at his weekly press conference.
He added, "We call for the US change of attitude in practice."

"Holding talks with the US will be useful when we see the US tendency to correct its behavior but its willingness is not observed." He said, "US congressmen should abolish laws anti-Iran laws to show their goodwill. There are very clear ways to show goodwill." The speaker noted that a proposal on establishment of the Iran-US Parliamentary Friendship Group was not "too serious".

A number of Iranian MPs have recently offered a proposal on formation of the Iran-US Parliamentary Friendship Group.

"Certain MPs thought establishment of the group would be an appropriate measure to convey viewpoints of the Islamic Republic of Iran but later they, themselves, understood they had not chosen a good path," Haddad-Adel said.

Asked about reasons Iran does not hold talks with the US on its nuclear case, he replied Washington is aware of what Tehran intends to say about its peaceful nuclear activities.

"Iran intends to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and regards it as its rights. We are not after producing atomic weapons," the speaker said.

He added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency within frameworks of the IAEA regulations. Tehran accepts the agency's supervision over its peaceful nuclear activities."

"This is Iran's transparent policy which has been declared to Europe, the US and the entire world." Pointing to upcoming Iran-US talks on Iraq, he said, "Talks with the US is aimed at helping Iraq establish security." The speaker expressed hope the Iraqi people would witness a better future.

He said talks on Iraq's security would be a humanitarian and Islamic duty to help a neighboring state, adding, "Talks will be held with respect to the Iranian nation's interest in the Iraqi people."


We only have a few more days to wait to see how far the United States will give up in its talks with Iran...They are scheduled for May 28th, 2007...
