DAR AL HARB-U.S.A.: C.A.I.R. WANTS SAMI AL-ARIAN RELEASED FROM JAIL

CAIR Continues To Call For The Release Of Admitted Terrorist Sami Al Arian

In a joint press release Parvez Ahmad, the Council on American Islamic Relation's board chair and Agha Saeed national chair of the American Muslim Alliance have demanded the release of self-admitted Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist Sami Al Arian, who remains in custody pending deportation.

Ahmad and Saeed have called Al Arian a "political prisoner," stating that he was, "...targeted not for his actions, but for his political views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

However if indeed Al Arian is a political prisoner why did he plead guilty to, "conspiracy to make or receive contributions of funds, goods or services to or for the benefit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad," a direct admission that he was indeed the terrorist which the government had alleged all along?

Further, according to an April 17, 2006 DOJ press release:

"...Former University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian has pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad [PIJ], a specially designated terrorist organization, in violation of U.S. law, the Department of Justice announced today...Al-Arian pleaded guilty to Count Four of the indictment against him - a charge of conspiracy to make or receive contributions of funds, goods or services to or for the benefit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad...Al-Arian's agreement with the government calls for a recommended prison sentence of 46 to 57 months in prison, based on a five-year maximum statutory sentence. Al-Arian, 48, who has been in custody since his arrest on Feb. 20, 2003, has agreed to stipulate to deportation to another country by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement once his prison sentence has ended..."

In a weak effort to muddy the waters, CAIR and AMA state, "The Bush administration's evidence in the six-month trial consisted largely of speeches Al-Arian gave, magazines he edited, lectures he presented, articles he wrote, books he owned, conferences he organized, rallies he attended, and news he heard," which is essentially true but was nonetheless sufficient to demonstrate Al Arian's intent and eventually secure his confession.

In offering their support for Al Arian, CAIR and the AMA are in actuality serving as spokesmen for America's stealth jihad lobby which encompasses but is not limited to the following organizations:

The American Muslim Alliance [AMA]

The Council on American-Islamic Relations [CAIR]

The Islamic Circle of North America [ICNA]

The Islamic Society of North America [ISNA]

The Muslim Alliance of North America [MANA]

The Muslim American Society [MAS]

The Muslim Public Affairs Council [MPAC]

The Muslim Student Association [MSA]

The Muslim Ummah of North America [MUNA]

The North American Islamic Trust [NAIT]

The Project Islamic Hope [PIH]

The United Muslims of America [UMA]

All of these groups are actively working according to a plan set forth by the Muslim Brotherhood, a program designed to Islamize the United States, using a strategy of incrementalism.

DAR AL HARB-U.S.A.: TAX DOLLARS OF AMERICANS FUNDING TERROR

Your Tax Dollars Funding Terror
A strategic partnership between a prominent Department of Defense research institute and organizations tied to terrorism reveals the problem with the federal government's Islamic outreach programs.
by Patrick Poole

For more than fifty years, the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) has been one of the leading government-sponsored and -funded research institutions, conducting highly classified research for the military and intelligence community’s most secret projects. As its website notes, IDA currently operates three separate federally-funded research and development centers (FFRDC): one for the Secretary of Defense, another for the National Security Agency, and yet another for the Executive Office of the President.

Because of the nature of its work, for which it receives nearly $200 million annually in taxpayer support (the exact amount of its current funding is unknown since IDA’s last published IRS Form 990 available on the Internet is 2002), it is no surprise that IDA’s board of trustees, corporate officers and staff directory read like a “Who’s Who” of former federal agency heads and military leaders. IDA has previously characterized its exclusive relationship and direct participation in top-secret government programs as such:

The work often requires privileged access to sensitive information, including highly classified and industry proprietary data not normally available to non-government organizations.
Considering IDA’s influential position with the Department of Defense and the intelligence community, and the sensitive nature of the work it undertakes for the federal government, it is distressing that this federally-funded “think tank” has established a strategic partnership with four different Islamic organizations that have been identified by federal prosecutors as tied to the international terrorist network.

IDA has partnered with these groups as part of American Muslims for Constructive Engagement (AMCE), an alliance of six different organizations:

International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT)

Islamic Society of North America (ISNA)

Muslim American Society (MAS)

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

International Council of Religion and Democracy (ICRD)

Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA)

Three of these groups — IIIT, ISNA and CAIR — were listed by the Department of Justice as unindicted co-conspirators last May in the Holy Land Foundation terror financing trial. Meanwhile, MAS was recently identified by federal prosecutors in a DOJ appeals court brief in another terrorism-related case as “the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.” The brief also states that “CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists.”

In stark contrast to IDA’s extensive list of leaders and staff with records of exemplary military and government service, AMCE’s advisory council reads like a virtual “Who’s Who” of Islamic extremist leaders in America.

DAR AL HARB-U.S.A.: SAVAGE'S LAWYERS, ALONE WITH REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS, TO INVESTIGATE C.A.I.R. FINANCING

Savage lawyers target CAIR's paymasters
Muslim group bankrolled by Arab states tied to 9/11

Preparing an appeal of a dismissed lawsuit against the Council of American-Islamic Relations, talk radio host Michael Savage and his legal team have taken a new tack, investigating CAIR's foreign financial backers, WND has learned.

CAIR is registered as a nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under IRS code section 501(c)(3), which restricts "lobbying on behalf of a foreign government." CAIR's website claims that it receives no foreign government support.

However, CAIR's headquarters near the U.S. Capitol until recently was owned by the ruler of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the ruler's foundation has pledged $50 million to capitalize a long-term CAIR public-relations campaign.

"This should start to get interesting," said a member of Savage's legal team.

...

Meantime, WND has learned that the Republican leadership in Congress is seeking hearings to also investigate CAIR's foreign financing.

DAR AL HARB-U.S.A.: DAMN YOU AMERICA [GREAT SATAN] - STOP SUPPORTING THOSE DAMNED JEWS

***DISCLOSURE***DISCLOSURE***DISCLOSURE***

C.A.I.R.: COUNCIL ON AMERICAN-ISLAMIC RELATIONS has been named as an "UNINDICTED CO-CONSPIRATOR" in a CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE MOSLEM TERRORIST GROUP HAMAS...One of three prominenet moslem organizations in the United States that have spread their tentacles far & wide...

The same HAMAS that is being supported by IRAN:

1) Iran Pledges Financial Support for Hamas-Run Palestinian Authority

2) Iran's Khamenei calls on Islamic govts to support Hamas

3) Egypt threatened by Iranian support for Hamas

HAMAS = "Harakat Al-Muqawama Al-Islamia" = Islamic Resistance Movement &and a word meaning zeal

***DISCLOSURE***DISCLOSURE***DISCLOSURE***

And now for M.P.A.C. [Muslim Plublic Affairs Council]:

In a November 1997 speech at the University of Pennsylvania, MPAC Co-Founder and Executive Director Salam Al-Marayati steadfastly refused to call Hezbollah a terrorist organization; he justified the existence of Hamas as a political entity and a provider of social programs and "educational operations"; and he equated jihad with the sentiments of the American statesman Patrick Henry, whose "Give me liberty or give me death" declaration was, in Al-Marayati's view, "a way of looking at the term jihad from an American perspective." In a 1999 position paper, MPAC justified Hezbollah's deadly 1983 bombing of the American Marine barracks in Lebanon as a "military operation" rather than a terrorist attack. As Maher Hathout puts it: "Hezbollah is fighting for freedom, an organized army, limiting its operations against military people, this is a legitimate target against occupation. … this is legitimate, this is an American value -- freedom and liberty."

MPAC's worldview is further revealed by its many additional public statements on a wide array of issues and events:

According to MPAC: "Israel was established by terrorism"; its founding "involved the unjust and illegal usurpation of Muslim and Christian land and rights"; and "to recognize the legitimacy of that crime is a crime in itself."

MPAC characterizes Israel as a "racist, chauvinistic and militaristic" state that is prosecuting "a war to steal land from Palestinians, to decimate their leadership, to humiliate the Palestinian people."

Condemning Israel's "apartheid-like ideology," MPAC warns: "History
shows that Muslim and Christian religious rights are not safe under Israeli occupation."

Israelis are "the worst terrorists in the world," says MPAC, "… Yet Israel is not found on the list of state sponsors of terrorism in the [U.S.] State Department Report on Terrorism."

MPAC co-sponsored pro-Palestinian rallies in the fall of 2000, where MPAC speakers chanted "Khaybar, Khaybar, oh Jews, the Army of Muhammed is coming for you!" The rally featured literature and many placards calling for the annihilation of the Jews and Israel.

A few hours after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, MPAC Co-Founder Salam
Al-Marayati told a Los Angeles talk radio audience: "If we're going to look
at suspects, we should look at the groups that benefit the most from these kinds of incidents, and I think we should put the state of Israel on the suspect list because I think this diverts attention from what's happening in the Palestinian territories so that they can go on with their aggression and occupation and apartheid policies."

On November 30, 2002, MPAC Vice Chairman Aslam Abdullah said:
"Those who are part of the political Zionist movement in America … know it very well that without the support of the United States … their country, namely Israel, would not be able to pursue its apartheid and racist policies in the Middle East. They will use every means possible to ensure that American administration stays on their side. They will create false enemies, they will distort facts, they will manipulate events; and they will concoct and fabricate lies. They have taken America hostage."

MPAC was a signatory to a MAY 20, 2004 Joint Muslims/Arab-American Statement on Israeli Violence in Gaza, which "strongly condemn[ed]" Israel's "indiscriminate killings of innocent Palestinians, including many children," and its "demolition of Palestinian homes" -- but made no mention of Arab terrorism.

On March 23, 2005, MPAC National Director Ahmed Younis spoke at a Muslim
Students' Association
-sponsored event, where he explained that because Adolf Eichmann was himself a Jew, it could accurately be said that Jews had killed themselves in the Holocaust.

MPAC endorsed a November 1, 2001 document characterizing the 9/11 attacks as a legal matter to be addressed by criminal-justice procedures rather than military means. Ascribing the hijackers' motives to alleged social injustices against which they were protesting, this document called on the United States "to promote fundamental rights around the world."

MPAC speakers regularly complain that the U.S. is "dominated" by Zionists and favors Jews over Muslims.

Opposed to efforts to shut down Islamic charities that fund terrorism -- alleging that such efforts interfere with freedom of religion and the exercise of the Muslim obligation to give to charity -- MPAC states that the U.S. government should instead investigate what it terms Jewish "terrorists" like the Jewish Defense League. The Council signed and sponsored a petition to reinstate the assets of Hamas' charitable front, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, after it was designated as a front for terrorist financing.

According to MPAC, "A major threat to the safety of the Muslim community is the Islam-bashing that has been very evident since 9/11. There has been a steady stream of attacks on the Quran … These attacks are vicious, mean-spirited, and politically motivated. … [T]he most sustained and vitriolic [attacks] are from right-wing Christian groups led by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson."

The MPAC 2002 Annual Banquet featured Ali Al-Mazrui, a SUNY-Binghamton professor who said: "There is also suspicion that some members of the Bush administration in collusion with Israel are more than ready to plunge the Middle East into turmoil in the hope that the final outcome would be to the territorial advantage of Israel and the strategic advantage of the United States. All this is part of the emerging external sadism of the United States, a readiness to hurt others abroad."

In a May 7, 2004 statement, MPAC said: "The scandal of Abu Ghraib was
not an isolated incident but a manifestation of hate rooted in a distortion of American culture. The soldiers charged for torturing and sexually humiliating Iraqi prisoners were reflecting, among other things, an irrational hatred against Arabs and Muslims. Hatred in Abu Ghraib is inextricably linked with hatred increasingly fostered by some elements of our government, our media, and other major national institutions."

After a series of arrests made in connection with an August 2006 airline terror scare in London, President Bush called the uncovered plot "a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation." MPAC spokeswoman Edina Lekovic reacted, "When the people we need most in the fight against terrorism, American Muslims, feel alienated by the President's characterization of these supposed terrorists, that does more damage than good."

After having read the DISCLOSURES above, you are now ready to read the following articles concerning statements made by two 'moderate' moslem organizations in the United States:

Muslim Groups Urge US to End 'Uncritical Support for Israel's Brutal Actions'

(CNSNews.com) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) issued a joint statement Thursday condemning Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. The attacks stem from continuing Palestinian provocation. In the past two days, in an attempt to wipe out Palestinian rocket-launching cells, Israeli has conducted air strikes that have killed more than two dozen Palestinians, some of them civilians and children. In a statement, CAIR and MPAC said, "The killing of civilians on either side of this tragic conflict only serves to deepen mutual hostility and mistrust. We condemn all attacks on Palestinian or Israeli civilians and urge President Bush to address the humanitarian crisis, and end our nation's uncritical support for Israel's brutal and counterproductive actions." CAIR has positioned itself as a Muslim counterweight to the U.S. Israeli lobby. Meanwhile, Israel is believed to be planning a full-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip, following days of continuing rocket attacks on its territory. One Israeli died in a rocket attack on Sderot on Wednesday; several other people have been injured, including a woman whose home was hit on Friday. Pressure is growing inside Israel for the government to do something that will stop the incessant rocket attacks -- on civilians.

May I remind the people of C.A.I.R. & M.P.A.C. that the United States is not their nation but ISLAM & THE UMMAH ARE THEIR NATION...

Their first ALLEGIANCE IS NOT TO THE FLAG IT IS TO ALLAH...

...

There is no such principle within Islam that says you have to obey any laws other than what Allah (SWT) has revealed. It is outrageous to claim that the “law-of-the-land” supersedes the Sharia laws, if so then what value and authority does the Sharia laws have?

...

As Muslims, our allegiance is only to Allah (SWT) and His messenger and the Muslim Ummah (community). This is something expected from any community, Jews, Christians, atheists, agnostics, etc each would observe allegiance to their own community. So expecting the MCB to show its allegiance towards the Muslims is
not only natural but demanded by the Sharia very clearly.

The obvious implication is that we are prohibited from fighting against Muslims in alliance with the non-Muslims. For those who fought under the American flag in the first Gulf war committed a clear act of Kufr and apostasy. May Allah (SWT) give them their just reward in this life and the hereafter. Similarly those Muslims joining up to fight fellow Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq have committed similar acts of highest treachery, Kufr and apostasy.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A.: 3 EX-MOSLEM TERRORISTS WILL SPEAK AT THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY - - - CAIR IS PISSED OF, AGAIN

3 ex-terrorists speaking at AFA; Muslim group objects
By Jean Torkelson, Rocky Mountain News

The Air Force Academy has invited three men who say they are former Islamic terrorists to speak at the 50th annual Academy Assembly, which opened Tuesday.

The invitation to the four-day event, "Dismantling Terrorism: Developing Actionable Solutions for Today's Plague of Violence," has angered a national Muslim group, which calls the men "anti-Muslim bigots."

"It's as if they had (ex-Klansman) David Duke come to speak about race relations," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "Their entire presentation is based on the false belief that the root cause of all terrorism in the world is Islam and that it's evil and of the devil."

The assembly, founded in 1959, is a student conference on topics of contemporary significance, according to the academy Web site. This year's event is not meant to discuss any religion but to train future leaders, said Maj. Brett Ashworth, Air Force communications director.

Today's opening presentation, Inside Terrorism, features Walid Shoebat, Kamal Saleem and Zak Anani. They are described by their publicists as "three former terrorists" who "practiced hatred against Christians, Jews and Americans" and were "part of sleeper cells in the USA."

CAIR's offer to send a speaker with an alternative view of Islam was rejected because the conference isn't supposed to be about religion, Ashworth said.

...

Now let us read about CAIR, MAS & their ties to the MOSLEM BROTHERHOOD:

For the Record: Government Reminds Court of CAIR/MAS Ties to Terrorists

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is demanding that the Air Force Academy alter a panel of speakers slated for a terrorist symposium this week, saying it's an unbalanced presentation dominated by anti-Muslim speakers. But recently, and for at least the third time, federal prosecutors have called out CAIR as part of a covert Muslim Brotherhood effort in the United States. First, CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Hamas-support trial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF). CAIR was listed among "entities who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood's Palestine Committee." Then, when the group petitioned to remove its name from that list, prosecutors said such relief "will not prevent its conspiratorial involvement with HLF, and others affiliated with Hamas, from becoming a matter of public record."

Now, in a federal court filing from December, federal prosecutors have described CAIR as "having conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists." The government also stated that "proof that the conspirators used deception to conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists was introduced" in the Dallas Holy Land Foundation trial last year and the Chicago trial of the Hamas men in 2006.

The government also stated that another organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS) was "founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States." This appears to be the first time the US government has officially described the true origins and ulterior agenda of the Muslim American Society. The following is being issued by the Council on American-Islamic Relations:

POLL SHOWS MUSLIM VOTERS UNDECIDED ABOUT WHITE HOUSE PICK

By Ibrahim Hooper

Ibrahim Hooper is strategic communications director for the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil liberties group. He may be contacted at and a photo is available at:

http://www.cair.com/AboutUs/CAIRNationalBoardandStaff.aspx#Ibrahim_Hooper

Many religious or ethnic minority groups are considered to be in one political camp or the other. But a recent survey of American Muslim voters shows they are largely undecided about their choice for president in the November elections.

SEE: American Muslim Voters and the 2008 Election

The results of that national survey, commissioned by the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), also show a family-oriented, highly-educated and diverse group of voters who condemn terrorism and believe anti-Americanism in the Muslim world is a serious problem.

When contacted late last year by an independent polling firm, a random sample of 1,000 Muslim voters said they are:

-- Young: More than three-fourths (78 percent) of respondents said they are between the ages of 30 and 54.

-- Highly Educated: A majority (65 percent) said they have a bachelor's degree or higher.

-- Middle Class: Almost half of respondents (43 percent) said they have a household income of $50,000 or higher.

-- Family Oriented: More than three-fourths of respondents (77 percent) said they are married.

-- Religiously Diverse: More than half (52 percent) of respondents said they attend a mosque at least once a month, but than one-fifth (21 percent) said they seldom or never attend a mosque. While 46 percent of the respondents said they consider themselves "Sunni," 38 percent said they view themselves as "just Muslims." Ten percent said they are "Shia," while two percent said they are "Sufi," a more mystical interpretation of the faith.

-- Involved in Civic Life: The vast majority of Muslim respondents (87 percent) said they regularly go to the polls on Election Day and almost half (45 percent) said they volunteer for an institution serving the public.

* Democratic or Independent: Forty-nine percent of respondents said they consider themselves Democrats and 36 percent said they are politically independent. Only 8 percent of respondents said they are Republicans. When asked about their preferred presidential candidate, almost half of respondents (45 percent) said they "don't know or haven't decided."

...

On international issues, American Muslim voters also said:

-- American Muslim leaders should support peace and reconciliation between the warring factions in Iraq. (80 percent)

-- Anti-Americanism in the Muslim world is a serious problem and anti-Muslim prejudice is a threat to American Muslims. (76 percent)

-- Brokering a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would improve America's reputation in the Muslim world. (75 percent)

-- Simulated drowning (water-boarding) is an unacceptable interrogation method for terror suspects. (74 percent)

When asked which issues will have the most influence on their voting decision, education was the top pick (89 percent) followed by civil rights (86 percent), health care policy (85 percent) and the economy (85 percent).

These results defy stereotypes of American Muslims as a monolithic group. One interesting finding of the survey shows that the most devout Muslim voters are also those who are more likely to believe that Islam and modernity are compatible.

Almost 80 percent of the Muslim voters polled said they would vote in this year's presidential primaries. With the prospect of close elections nationwide, no candidate can afford to ignore this potential bloc of swing voters.

DAR AL HARB/ISLAM - U.S.A./CANADA/U.K.: THE JIHAD ON AMERICA'S FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Muslims have found a new way to stifle criticism of their fanatic ideology
By Vincent Gioia
MichNews.com
Jan 25, 2008

It seems that not all countries enjoy freedom of speech as prescribed by the United States constitution. In this country there is a well established body of law that gives us the right to say anything within reason without fear of legal challenge or a criminal penalty. Although this right is not absolute (Justice Holmes on the Supreme Court once said there is no right to yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre), the right of freedom of expression is quite real and extensive.

With regard to libel laws in this country, it is recognized that truth is a defense to any challenge to someone’s criticism of another and, moreover, public figures do not receive the same right of privacy in this regard that private individuals have. However, in some countries the burden of proof is on the defendant author and publisher to justify what was written and the plaintiff, i.e., the Islamist group, merely has to make the allegation. Even if the author may ultimately win, the deep pocket Muslims, having Saudi backing, will make it very expensive for the author and his publisher to succeed.

Unlike the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom do not provide the same freedom of speech, at least with respect to criticism of Islam and Muslims, and certainly not of Mohammad. This has been made readily apparent in the recent strategy by Muslim groups to sue authors and publishers of their writings they allege either insult or defame Islam or Mohammad in print, particularly in books and articles.

This Muslim strategy clearly portends a chilling effect on authors or any sensible expression of the truth about Islam. Publishers are reluctant to publish writings Muslims may consider offensive, thus depriving authors an opportunity to be heard. For example, even where authors are free to express themselves in books published in the United States, publishers interested in book sales abroad or on the internet with access in foreign countries, risk law suits by Muslims and their organizations, such as CAIR, for damages and to prevent sales in such countries; Canada and the United Kingdom being specific examples.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A.: C.A.I.R.'S INTIMIDATION DOESN'T WORK...NOT THIS TIME...

Jihad Watch Director and YAF Defy CAIR
by Kevin Mooney

(CNSNews.com) - America's largest and most well-financed Islamic advocacy group has been called out for allegedly hiring terrorist sympathizers and for helping to advance a radical ideology incompatible with the principles of a free society.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) bills itself as a civil rights organization and as a responsible voice of moderation. But its history, legal activities, and financial ties suggest otherwise, said Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch.

Spencer made his remarks last Thursday in Washington, D.C., at the 29th National Conservative Student Conference held by the Young America's Foundation (YAF).

In an e-mailed response to Cybercast News Servic, Ibrahim Hooper, a CAIR spokesman, said the organization questions some of the allegations and criticisms made by Spencer and others in a document entitled "De-Mystifying 'Urban Legends' about CAIR."

"As a result of the organization's high profile and its stellar record of principled advocacy of civil liberties, interfaith relations, and justice for all people, a small but vocal group of anti-Muslim bigots has made CAIR the focus of their mean-spirited attacks," the document states.

An attorney representing CAIR sent a letter to YAF last week demanding that the conservative outreach group cancel Spencer's talk, "The Truth about the Council on American Islamic Relations."

However, YAF officials told Cybercast News Service they had no intention of canceling Spencer's talk, which proceeded as planned. The CAIR letter made it clear that legal action would commence if YAF reused to comply.

"Our clients have instructed us to pursue every available and appropriate legal remedy to redress any false and defamatory statements that are made at the session," the letter stated. The CAIR attorney also described Spencer as a "well-known purveyor of hatred and bigotry against Muslims" in his letter. That is false and defamatory, Spencer said in response while addressing the students.

"It is a common tactic of both the left and the Islamic advocacy groups in America to accuse every critic of purveying hatred and bigotry," aid Spencer. "But I am not intimated by their threats or troubled by their smears ...."

Spencer also said his criticisms of CAIR are well documented and easily verified.

YAF President Ron Robinson told Cybercast News Service that the attempt to stifle free speech reflected poorly on CAIR.

"I've been running this conference for 29 years and I've never had anyone try to exercise prior restraint of a speaker," he said. "To say in vague terms they object to a speaker without specifically outlining what those objections are speaks to a lack of professionalism in their organization."

Allegations against CAIR
In many respects, CAIR grew out of the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP), an organization shut down by U.S. officials in 2005 for funding terrorism, said Spencer.

Nihad Awad, a former IAP president, and Omar Ahmad, a former IAP officer, co-founded CAIR. Spencer also claimed that Hooper, the CAIR spokesman, was active with IAP at one time.

A report issued through the Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) in 2001 shows IAP was aligned with Hamas, reported Spencer. Hamas itself was founded as a Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in 1987, according to the U.S. State Department.

Even if Awad, Ahmad, and Hooper all left IAP to become active with CAIR as a way of disassociating themselves from questionable activities in the past, they continued to embrace individuals involved with unsavory activities, said Spencer.

Randall (Ismail) Royer is one such individual whom Spencer identified in his talk. Royer, who Spencer said previously served as a civil rights coordinator for CAIR, was also a part of the "Virginia Jihad Group," which, Spencer noted, was indicted on 41 counts of "conspiracy to train for and participate in a violent jihad overseas. Royer also was charged with conspiring to help Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in their battle against American troops in Afghanistan.

Spencer also named Ghassan Elashi, whom he described as the founder of CAIR's Texas chapter. Elashi was charged with giving over $12 million to Hamas via a charity organization. Elashi was also convicted in 2004 for illegally shipping computers to Libya and Syria.

"If CAIR is a moderate group that abhors all jihad violence, how did those former CAIR employees who are now in prison get through the interviewing process?" Spencer asked rhetorically.

But the point Spencer made about former CAIR employees proceeds from a "disinformation" campaign that depends on "McCarthy-like attempts to portray CAIR as guilty by association," according to the CAIR document. Moreover, the document states, the "smears against CAIR are disseminated by agenda-driven extremists who seek to marginalize and disenfranchise the American-Muslim community and its leaders."

Although CAIR acknowledges that Royer pleaded guilty to weapons charges, the document claims he did not plead guilty to any charge of terrorism. CAIR also says Elashi was never an employee or officer.

"The fact that Elashi was once associated with one of our more than 30 regional chapters has no legal significance to our corporation, given the fact that any actions taken by him were outside the scope and chronology of his association with one of our chapters," CAIR declared in its document.

The alleged links between CAIR and Hamas figured prominently in Spencer's address. He pointed out, for instance, that federal prosecutors named CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator as a consequence of its support for the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) for Relief and Development, which has been charged with directing funds to Hamas.

However, in its response to Cybercast News Service, CAIR noted that the HLF case was still pending in court. Furthermore, CAIR claims the donation in question was made "at a time when there was no public concern raised about HLF."

In a separate interview, Spencer told Cybercast News Service that CAIR's overriding objective is to "silence all criticisms of Islam and all investigation of the elements of Islam that Islamic jihadists are using to foster their goals."

Spencer also said top officials in CAIR have made "statements of Islamic supremacy" that should be of "grave concern" to the American people. There is an effort underway, in his estimation, to impose sharia law in the U.S.

The "moderate" label CAIR ascribes to its organization does not square with its activities or methodology, said Spencer. Instead, it would appear that CAIR is working to "silence any genuine investigation into the elements of Islam which are in need of reform," he said.

CAIR apparently has not deterred YAF so far. "We haven't heard a peep from CAIR or their lawyers," YAF's Jason Mattera wrote in an e-mail to Cybercast News Service.

In his e-mail message, CAIR's Hooper declined an invitation to comment on the status of any pending legal action against YAF.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - MICHIGAN: C.A.I.R. PRAISES THE NATION OF ISLAM

Muslim leader touts education, discourages violence
by Tom Greenwood

The Detroit News

DETROIT -- It isn't often that you see a speaker receive a standing ovation before he addresses an audience, but that's what happened to Imam W. Deen Mohammad in the auditorium of Wayne Community College Saturday afternoon.

Imam Mohammed, the son of Elijah Muhammad who founded the Nation of Islam, addressed the audience on the role of "Islam and Higher Education." While the Imam lightly touched on the subject of formal education, his main theme was on the moral education of mankind.

"Muhammad, the messenger of Allah, told us that 'the ink of the scholar is more precious than the blood of the martyr,'" the Imam told a warm and respectful audience of about 300 people.

"Education teaches us morality; from the simple justice of right and wrong to the higher level of morality, which we call ethics. Our scientists, whether they are political, military or economic, must eventually respect justice and morality."

While the Imam's audience was made up mainly of Muslims and was totally African American, his theme was aimed at people of all races, colors, creeds and religions; a reflection of his break from the Nation of Islam and his embrace of Islam proper.

"This man is the best kept secret in America when it comes to Muslims in America," said Dawud Walid, Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations.

"When he said that the 'ink of the scholar is more precious than the blood of the martyr' he was telling us that armed struggle is not the answer. Education and morality; those two things will propel Muslims out of the condition they are in today."

According to Imam Mohammad, 73, who was born in Hamtramck, the importance of education can be seen from the very beginnings of Islam.

"The first word that God said to Muhammad was not 'God,' but 'read,'" the Imam said, as many in the audience nodded or took notes.

"The word 'Koran' means 'that which must be read.' And the Koran shows both men and women to be thinkers."

The Imam also quoted African-American scholar and nationalists W.E.B. DuBois who said that "we will progress in the measure that we are willing to teach our children to think."

With a flash of humor, the Imam reminded the audience of the greatness of Muslim scholars throughout the ages.

"Why do you think they call it 'Arabic numbers?'" he said to the audience.

"It's because Muslims invented it. We'd be in serious trouble if we had to multiply using Roman numerals, don't you think?"

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - WASHINGTON D.C.: DHIMMI IMAM BUSH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BOOSTING "ISLAMOPHOBIA" IN THE UNITED STATES

CAIR [unindicted co-conspirator in the case against the Holy Land Foundation - a charity that raised funds for the terrorist group Hamas... ed. A.I.] blames White House for boosting 'Islamophobia'
By Audrey Hudson and Sara A. Carter

A Muslim civil rights group yesterday blamed the Bush administration for promoting "Islamophobia" and said the "war on terror" won't stop terrorists.

"The new perception is that the United States has entered a war with Islam itself," said Parvez Ahmed, chairman of the national board of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"Terrorism is a tactic. You cannot eradicate it by declaring a war against it. The war on terror is causing us infinitely more harm than the terrorists could have ever imagined."

Mr. Ahmed, who spoke at a CAIR symposium at the National Press Club, said the war against terrorists is driven by an "irrational" fear that the Bush administration has inculcated in the American public. The chance of being killed in a terrorist attack, he said, is 1 in 80,000 over a lifetime.

"It is important to bear in mind that terrorists cannot destroy America," he said, appearing on a panel discussing the symposium theme, "Attacking Islam: Implications for Social Cohesion and U.S. Relations with the Muslim World." The U.S., he said, is too powerful and too resourceful for terrorists to defeat.

The Bush administration's policies in Iraq have driven a deep wedge between Muslims and non-Muslims in the United States, he said.

"Policies driven by fear will be naturally irrational. Thus, in this state of irrationality, the Bush administration, often through their surrogates, have resorted to fear-mongering. This has unleashed a vicious cycle, one in which fear leads to bad policies and bad policies lead to more fear.

"The popular discourse in America today remains mired in stereotypical denouncements about Islam. As a result, Muslims and their faith remained misunderstood, feared and shunned."

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A.: CAIR'S (UNINDICTED CO-CONSPIRATOR) DUPLICITOUS WAYS

CAIR's duplicitous ways
By Joel Mowbray

While the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been busy attacking syndicated columnist Cal Thomas recently for supposedly "Islamophobic" comments, the media-hungry group did not condemn the foiled terrorist plots in London or the successful one in Glasgow, Scotland.

Though CAIR's Web site has a video clip of the Chicago chapter director lamenting the events in Britain and the group helped coordinate a St. Louis press conference of Muslim doctors who spoke out against the terrorists, CAIR itself did not condemn the actions of the Islamic terrorists in Britain.

Given that CAIR played a role in promoting its Chicago director and the Muslim doctors, some might wish to give the benefit of the doubt. The organization's history, however, shows that this artful dodge is simply part of its modus operandi.

CAIR has mastered the art of appearing to oppose terrorism, while at the same time leading the charge against those who seek to thwart it.

A case in point is its curiously neglecting to condemn Britain's Islamic terrorists, while during the same week blasting as "Islamophobic" Mr. Thomas' remarks on local radio station WTOP expressing concern about fundamentalists from the "Middle East and South Asia" who are integrating into the broader Muslim society.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - DETROIT: MOSLEMS UPSET THAT WIRETAPPING CAN CONTINUE - - - CRAMPS THEIR JIHAD JUST A LITTLE

Federal appeals court overturns wiretap ruling
By NIRAJ WARIKOO

A federal appeals court panel today vacated an order by a federal judge in Detroit that ruled that the Bush Administration's wiretapping program was unconstitutional -- a move that concerned local civil rights advocates and Muslim leaders.

In a 2-1 vote, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati said that the plaintiffs, which included local Muslim and Arab-American groups, could not prove they have been harmed by a National Security Agency spying program created in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Bush administration argued that such a program was legal and necessary to defend the nation from terrorism.

But the American Civil Liberties Union, along with groups and attorneys based in Michigan, filed a lawsuit in Detroit in January 2006 saying that the government’s surveillance program was unconstitutional and interfered with their jobs.

U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit ruled in favor of the plaintiffs last August.

The U.S. Justice Department then appealed the case to the Sixth Circuit Appeals Court.

Kary Moss, head of the Michigan branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, said “it’s a really unfortunate decision.”

She said that one of the reasons the plaintiffs had difficulty proving they were being adversely affected was that the government has kept information about the wiretapping program a secret.
Moss said they are considering appealing the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations, one of the co-plaintiffs, said: “It’s a shame that the court overturned the decision... what the executive branch was doing was unconstitutional.”

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - GEORGIA: "HEAD TO TOE BAG" DENIED ENTRY INTO COURTROOM

Muslim denied entrance to court
By Kelli Hernandez

VALDOSTA — A Muslim woman seeking to contest a simple speeding ticket was denied access to the Valdosta courtroom of Municipal Court Judge Vernita Lee Bender because she was wearing a traditional Islamic head scarf.

The day of her hearing, 20-year-old Aniisa Karim said she walked in the front doors of the Municipal Court building and was told that she would not be permitted to enter the courtroom with her scarf on even after she explained to the security officer that she is not permitted by her religion to remove the scarf in public. Karim said the officer called for his lieutenant, who affirmed the decision that Karim would be barred from the courtroom unless her scarf was removed.

“I said, ‘No, I’m Muslim, and like I told (the first officer) I wear this for religious reasons and if you don’t allow me in the courtroom with my scarf on basically you are violating my civil rights and my right to a free religion because this is my religion,’” Karim said.

Karim said one of the officers told her that the denial of entry to the courtroom was due to “homeland security reasons” and that allowing her to enter would show “disrespect” to the judge, though Karim offered to walk through the metal detectors and allow the officers utilize the handheld metal detector to scan the scarf.

Karim said she asked the officers what she was supposed to do about her ticket since she was not removing the scarf in public. The officers then called out a court clerk who told Karim that she would be permitted to reschedule her hearing for a future date, though she would still not be permitted to wear her scarf into the courtroom at that time.

According to Karim, her only option was to plead nolo contendere and pay the $168 fine since that process could be completed in the lobby without entering the courtroom.

Through the clerk of court, Judge Vernita Lee Bender communicated an apology for the denial of entry stating “we have rules that everyone has to follow,” according to Karim.

Following the advice of a family friend who is an attorney and also Muslim, Karim contacted the Council of American-Islamic Relations, a prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group.

In response to Karim’s story, the Washington-based group wrote a letter to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker which stated, “We assert that Judge Bender’s actions violated the Georgia Code of Judicial Conduct, which states: ‘Judges shall perform judicial duties without bias or prejudice. Judges shall not, in the performance of judicial duties, by words or conduct manifest bias or prejudice, including but not limited to bias or prejudice based upon race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status, and shall not permit staff, court officials and others to subject to judicial direction and control to do so.’”

CAIR added that under Title III of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the courtroom should be considered a “public facility” and denial of access to the courtroom based on religious beliefs or practices is therefore discriminatory.

“In addition, we believe Judge Bender’s actions are in violation of First and Fourteenth Amendment rights to freedom of religion and equal protection under the law. Two state supreme courts have ruled that government must show compelling state interest in preventing religious head coverings in a courtroom. Obviously, we believe that no such compelling interest exists in this case,” CAIR stated in the letter.

CAIR requested that Baker “take appropriate action to ensure that the legal, religious and civil rights of Georgians of all faiths be maintained.” The group also asked for a formal apology from Bender and a written assurance that Karim and all others wearing religious attire be allowed in her courtroom.

“I feel like in the year 2007 things like this should not happen any more,” Karim said. “Of course everyone doesn’t know everything about different religions, but if I tell you, ‘I’m Muslim this is a part of my religion,’ I feel like if you are a public officer you should be educated enough to know.”

Karim stated that she hopes that as a result of the incident public officials will be more educated about different religions and different people so that others’ rights are not violated.

Charge of Muslim harassment in Blaine resolved
Blaine school, civil rights group strike a quick accord in a complaint over Muslim students being harassed.
by Jeff Strickler

A complaint about the harassment of Muslim students at a Blaine middle school has been resolved, with the school district being praised for its response.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota) filed a complaint last month that a Muslim student at Westwood Middle School was called a "terrorist." Two other Muslim students alleged that food was thrown at them.

In an agreement announced Thursday, the school will incorporate information about world religions into its geography curriculum, assign a diversity coordinator and create a "school climate task force" of students and faculty.

"They have really made a wonderful effort," said CAIR Vice Chair Thasneem Ahmed. "We are very pleased with the steps they have taken."

Don Helmstetter, superintendent of the Spring Lake Park School District, said he still regrets that the matter reached the complaint stage but is happy with its resolution.

"I feel bad when any parent has an issue that they need to take to an outside party," he said.

"But the good news is that the people at CAIR know who we are now, and they know that if they have another issue, they can call us up and feel that we will deal with it quickly and appropriately."

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - CALIFORNIA: STUDENT TOLD TO TAKE OFF THE MOSLEM SCARF - - - CAIR IS WINDING UP TO HUFF & PUFF

CAIR-SFBA calls for public apology, diversity training for school staff

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) today called for a public apology and diversity training following a June 19th incident in which a high school official demanded that a Muslim student remove her hijab, or Islamic head scarf.

According to the 13-year-old Muslim student, a supervisor in the lunchroom of Seaside High School in Seaside, Calif., demanded that she remove her scarf, despite being told that it was worn for religious reasons. The student, who was visiting the school to take part in a summer algebra program, says she broke down in tears after the supervisor allegedly shouted, "You have to take it off now," in front of more than 100 other students in the lunchroom.

Despite the shouted demands of the school official, the girl refused to remove her scarf.

CAIR-SFBA contacted the school principal who confirmed that the incident occurred as described. He offered to arrange a face-to-face apology with the supervisor and student but did not agree to a public apology.

"It is a gross violation of authority to demand that a student violate his or her religious principles in order to receive an education," said CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Safaa Ibrahim. "Because the student was humiliated in public, it is only reasonable to make an apology or statement in public to mitigate the damage caused by the supervisor's unacceptable actions."

Ibrahim also asked that the school institute diversity training for all staff and that appropriate measures be taken to ensure that this type of disturbing incident is not repeated.

She said CAIR publishes a booklet, called "An Educator's Guide to Islamic Religious Practices," designed to avoid just such incidents.

CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 33 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: CANADA'S C.A.I.R. SAYS THAT THE AUTHORITIES SHOULD SCRAP THE 'NO-FLY LIST' UNTIL PROBLEMS ARE RESOLVED

Ottawa should scrap no-fly list until flaws fixed, says Islamic group

OTTAWA (CP) - The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations says Ottawa should scrap the no-fly list, which came into effect today, until it fixes major flaws in the program.

Spokesman Sameer Kuberi says the Passenger Protect program is fundamentally flawed and that it must be debated openly in parliament.

He says the federal government must also change the process by which people can apply for reconsideration if their names are mistakenly placed on the so-called Specified Persons list.

Federal officials say the list, which is compiled with the help of the RCMP and CSIS, is meant to safeguard domestic airline passengers by identifying individuals who may pose an immediate threat to aviation security.

But the council, which has long criticized the list, says it lacks due process and could lead to racial and religious profiling.

The Muslim American Society Service Corps is reaching out to people of all faiths in need, nationally and locally.

Here, 500 pounds of meat was delivered Wednesday, which will be part of a monthly donation being distributed through Churches United of the Quad-City Area. The boxes of meat are being distributed at four local food pantries administered through Churches United. The donation is part of the National Humanitarian Day relief drive to give sustenance to people in need across the United States.

“You are not a member of the community until you share with the community. Muslim Americans are part of the community and this is part of their responsibility to their community,” said Imam Ahmed Elkhaldy, president of Muslim American Society-Iowa. “To me it is divine obligation and I am doing my part to my neighbor and neighborhood.”

National Humanitarian Day is a fulfillment of the Qur’anic command to “feed the distressed ones in want.” The relief drive benefits disadvantaged people in their own communities, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds. The society is partnering with local organizations, like Churches United.

Churches United appreciates having an opportunity to partner with the society and ensure more people can receive emergency provisions, said Anne Wachal, program manager.

Churches United is an ecumenical organization that works with diverse groups and agencies on justice and social action issues in addition to its hunger ministries, radio show and other endeavors, she said.

Civil rights complaints rose in 2006, Muslim group reports
Filings against US agencies more than doubled
By David Morgan, Reuters

WASHINGTON -- The number of civil rights complaints by Muslims in the United States jumped 25 percent in 2006, mainly because of a surge in immigration and citizenship problems, a leading US Muslim group said yesterday.

In its annual report on civil rights, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said it processed 2,467 complaints last year, up from 1,972 in 2005.

Discrimination complaints against federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department, more than doubled to 890 filings from about 380 in 2005 and accounted for more than 36 percent of civil rights complaints.

"This is the first time since 2004 that government agencies represented the highest percentage of complaints," the council said in the 40-page report, "The Status of Muslim Civil Rights in the United States."

"This increase was due primarily to the number of cases related to major immigration issues such as citizenship and naturalization delays," the report said.

Hate crime complaints, including physical attacks against individuals and mosques, rose 9.2 percent to 167 in 2006, compared with 153 a year earlier, the Washington-based advocacy group said in the report.

But hate crimes also declined as a percentage of all complaints, as did other discrimination categories, including racial or religious profiling and verbal harassment.

C.A.I.R. has not denied the following report:

CAIR membership falls 90% since 9/11
By Audrey Hudson

Membership in the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has declined more than 90 percent since the 2001 terrorist attacks, according to tax documents obtained by The Washington Times.

The number of reported members spiraled down from more than 29,000 in 2000 to fewer than 1,700 in 2006. As a result, the Muslim rights group's annual income from dues dropped from $732,765 in 2000, when yearly dues cost $25, to $58,750 last year, when the group charged $35.

The organization instead is relying on about two dozen donors a year to contribute the majority of the money for CAIR's budget, which reached nearly $3 million last year.

Asked about the decline, Parvez Ahmed, CAIR's board chairman, pointed to the number of donors.

"We are proud that our grass-roots support in the American Muslim community has allowed CAIR to grow from having eight chapters and offices in 2001 to having 33 today," Mr. Ahmed said.

The self-described civil liberties organization for Muslims seeks to portray "a positive image of Islam" through public relations and the press, but instead has alienated some by defending questionable accusations of discrimination.

Critics of the organization say they are not surprised that membership is sagging, and that a recent decision by the Justice Department to name CAIR as "unindicted co-conspirators" in a federal case against another foundation charged with providing funds to a terrorist group could discourage new members.

M. Zuhdi Jasser, director of American Islamic Forum for Democracy, says the sharp decline in membership calls into question whether the organization speaks for American Muslims, as the group has claimed.

"This is the untold story in the myth that CAIR represents the American Muslim population. They only represent their membership and donors," Mr. Jasser said.

"Post-9/11, they have marginalized themselves by their tired exploitation of media attention for victimization issues at the expense of representing the priorities of the American Muslim population," Mr. Jasser said.

The organization has condemned some suicide bombings in Israel but has been criticized for refusing to condemn Hamas or Hezbollah by name.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, California Democrat, rescinded a "certificate of accomplishment" to Sacramento activist Basim Elkarra after learning that he was a CAIR official, according to Newsweek magazine.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - NEBRASKA: MEAT PACKING PLANT, UNION CONTRACTS & SOMALI MOSLEMS TRYING TO INFLICT THEIR SHARI'AH ON SWIFT & CO.

The original post & story had mentioned 94 workers walked off the job, according to Mr. Hoppes, the company had said 70 and now, this newspaper article says 120 walked off the job & 70 have returned...

Which to believe?!?

I would think that it should be the representative of Swift & Co. that should be believed, because:

1) Moslems themselves like to inflate their numbers, whether it is to make themselves feel better or to demonstrate "strength in numbers" to the infidels, I am not sure...

2) The MSM's are islamic handmaidens, obfuscating for the moslem jihad at every opportunity especially after the deal with the devil was struck and you can see the Islamo-Leftist Alliance working...

No surprise there, they have advocated for the worst humanity has had to offer, the Hussains, Stalin's, Lenin's, Chavez's, Castro's, Guevara's, insert the name of any other tin-pot dictator(s) of your choice here _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ...Plenty of them to go around...

Therefore, 70 walked off the job and 70 returned...

They have won nothing this go around, but they will not stop and their drip drip drip of demands will ultimately pay off. Because someone, somewhere at Swift & Co. and the Union will say: JUST GIVE IT TO THEM, because they are sick and tired of listening to the moslem whiners...

It will happen even faster, if there are threats to physical well being made...I wonder how soon that will come about...Ohh and what about accusations of racism, than the A.C.L.U. will get involved and C.A.I.R. with their proclomations of islam is peace, infidels are islamophobic and the moslem population in the U.S. is 7 million strong, except Pew Research has shown them to be liars because they couldn't find more than 2.35 million...

Yup, the jihad is strong in America...

70 who quit over prayer time return to work
Somali Muslims had wanted to be able to pray at sundown

OMAHA, Nebraska - Dozens of Somali meatpacking workers who quit their jobs because they were not given enough time off for Muslim prayers have returned to work, but the issue could resurface as sundown inches later through the summer, a union official said Friday.

About 70 of 120 Somali workers are back on the job at the Swift & Co. meatpacking plant after abruptly quitting last week. The workers complained that existing break time rules did not let them leave lines to pray at sundown.

Similar requests for workplace accommodations of Muslim religious obligations have become common around the country, says Muslim advocates.

“I don’t know how it’s going to work, and I feel bad about it,” said Dan Hoppes, president of Local 22 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

Later summertime sunsets could run past allotted breaks that keep workers from long stretches on production lines.

“We do those things to prevent injuries and to give them a little rest,” Hoppes said.

The workers agreed to come back after company and union officials met with workers and the head of a Somali community group to discuss the conflicts between Muslim prayer and workplace rules. The company agreed to accommodate the workers as much as it could within the contract, company and union officials said.
