DAR AL HARB - U.S.A.: THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT IS WORKING OVERTIME TO ISLAMIZE THE UNITED STATES

State Dept. invites radical imams into U.S.

Hundreds of Islamic fundamentalist clerics have been allowed to enter the United States to take over mosques in major cities.

The clerics come from countries such as Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan and have been influenced by al Qaeda. Many of the clerics are fresh graduates from Saudi-financed Wahhabi seminaries without any knowledge of English but who have a mandate to spread al Qaeda-type doctrine to mosques around the country, particularly in the New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Washington areas.

Law enforcement officials have been urging the federal government to monitor and control the influx of the imams amid heightened threat alerts of a possible al Qaeda attack. But the officials said the State Department succeeded in relaxing visa regulations as part of the administration's policy to promote the Saudi-sponsored Muslim agenda in the United States.

Many of the clerics have been supplied by Egypt's Al Azhar University in Cairo and by seminaries in Pakistan. Al Azhar, which is regarded as a bastion of al Qaeda supporters, has been allowed to send graduates to Muslim communities throughout the United States.

"Virtually none of these people speak English and know nothing about American culture or freedom," an official said. "Their job is to preach a very harsh Saudi-inspired fundamentalist message in Arabic."

Officials said the Bush administration has rejected proposals to regulate the flow of imams into the United States. France has sent scores of Islamic clerics back to Egypt and Morocco and require foreign applicants to be fluent in French.

"Aside from a willingness to resort to violence to compel fellow Muslims to conform to their religious and political views, radicals enjoy … critical advantages over moderate and liberal Muslims," said a Rand Corp report, entitled "Building Moderate Muslim Networks.”

"The first is money. Saudi funding for the export of the Wahhabi version of Islam over the last three decades has had the effect, whether intended or not, of promoting the growth of religious extremism throughout the Muslim world," the report said.

The influx of the foreign imams comes in the wake of the National Intelligence Estimate that warns of an increasingly violent element in the U.S. Muslim community. The U.S. intelligence report said Wahhabi ideology has become a dominant strain in many Muslim communities.

Officials said the State Department has facilitated the flow of the imams. They said the department issues visas that identify the fundamentalists as "religious guides."

"There is an administration policy to promote the Saudi Islamic agenda," the official said.

In June 2007, President Bush visited a Saudi Islamic Center in Washington as part of his "Muslim Initiative." The visit was said to have legitimized Saudi efforts to finance mosques and Islamic schools in the United States.

"I think the future is bright, because of our wisdom in dealing with the reality," said Yahya Hendi, a Palestinian imam who teaches at Georgetown University and has met with Bush. "There are serious efforts being made among the second and third generation to become part of the political establishment. The challenge we face is in the media and from some Christian extremists who don't want an Islamic presence in America."

"We, within the FBI, are trying to break down a lot of barriers and create a different brand about the FBI within the Arab-American and Muslim American community," said Gwen Hubbard, chief of the FBI's National Recruitment and Marketing unit.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - ARIZONA: BURGLARY & GRAFFITI IN A MOSQUE ARE NOW A HATE CRIME, THE F.B.I. CANNOT GET THERE FAST ENOUGH

Mosque: Graffito may be hate crime
By RYN GARGULINSKI
Tucson Citizen

Intruders targeted a Tucson mosque Sunday, the second time in less than two months, said mosque officials, who are starting to ask questions.

"We are beginning to wonder if this is a hate crime," said Muhammad As'ad, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Tucson, where the crimes took place.

The latest incident at the center at 901 E. First St., near the University of Arizona campus, was a ransacking of the mosque office, according to a news release Tuesday from the Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

A message - "Bush was here" - was hand-written with a marker on a computer monitor, the release said.

Tucson police confirmed the mosque reported a burglary Monday and the incident is under investigation.

Two months ago, thieves broke into the mosque and stole about $1,000, the release said.
The only TPD report that coincided with that date was an embezzlement reported Feb. 17, a TPD spokesman said. No information on that report was available Tuesday.

CAIR-AZ civil rights director Mohammed AbuHannoud said the council has asked the FBI to assist in the TPD investigation, but the FBI has no record of the request, an FBI spokeswoman said.

Deborah McCarley said the FBI had no record of CAIR-AZ's request, adding that just because "Bush was here" was scrawled on a computer monitor does not automatically classify the incident as a hate crime.

"I don't know if that in and by itself would make it a hate crime," she said Tuesday. "I know of no investigation that we're involved in at this time.

"It's unfortunate when any mosque or church is vandalized," McCarley added, "but it's not always a hate crime. Many are vandalized and broken into not necessarily as a hate crime but because you have vandals and thieves."

The center was in the news at the end of last year when a former imam, Omar Shahin, and four other Muslim scholars were barred from a US Airways flight in Minneapolis after fellow passengers complained that the Muslims appeared suspicious because they had kneeled and said prayers before boarding.

As'ad said the center may make changes, regardless of the crimes' classification.

"We are in the process of discussing increased security," he said. "But this is a good community. Very tolerant, a very good community."

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A.: YOUR SCHOOL BUS DRIVER MAY BE A TERRORIST...THINK BESLAN

FBI: Extremists Signing Up to Be School Bus Drivers
Bulletin Comes in the Wake of Other Warnings About the Safety of American Children

Your child's school bus driver could be a terrorist, according to an FBI bulletin issued today. This report comes in the wake of other recent warnings about the threat of terrorists in schools. From today's Fox News report--Members of extremist groups have signed up as school bus drivers in the United States, counter terror officials said Friday, in a cautionary bulletin to police. An FBI spokesman said, "Parents and children have nothing to fear."

"There is no plot. There is no threat. And parents and children can feel perfectly safe," FBI spokesman Richard Kolko stated to FOXNews.com. It noted "recent suspicious activity" by foreigners who either drive school buses or are licensed to drive them, according to a counter terror official who read parts of the document to The Associated Press. Per the report, some foreigners "with ties to extremist groups" have been under recent investigation.

The bulletin says that these foreigners "with ties to extremist groups" have been able to "purchase buses and acquire licenses." Although these are foreigners "with ties to extremist groups", the Homeland Security and the FBI report states the government has "no information indicating these individuals are involved in a terrorist plot against the homeland."

Additionally, the memo states: "Most attempts by foreign nationals in the United States to acquire school bus licenses to drive them are legitimate." One counter terror official, who requested to remain anonymous, told the press "it was likely that the foreigners investigated were merely employed as bus drivers, and did not intend to use them as part of any terror plot."

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told FOXNews.com, "I hate to characterize this as a warning." Instead, he said it is an "informational bulletin" that's part of routine information sent to local law enforcement agencies for use as background information while they are performing their normal duties.

"This is just an awareness issue for local law enforcement. ... It just makes them smarter," Kolko told reporters. Today's FBI bulletin about extremists getting school bus licenses is not the first such warning to law enforcement officials about the threat of terrorists in schools. Others have been issuing similar sober warnings.

DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - INDIANA: ROBERT SPENCER INVITED BY THE F.B.I., WILLWONDERS NEVER CEASE?!? MOSLEMS UPSET, NO SURPRISE THERE...

Invitation to author upsets Muslims
Islamic group says writer's planned talk to an FBI task force would add to distrust
By Robert King

The decision by the FBI's Indianapolis office to bring in author Robert Spencer to talk to its anti-terrorism task force has a Plainfield-based Muslim organization concerned that the bureau is listening to an "Islamophobe" who distorts its faith.

The FBI had planned to bring in Spencer this week to speak to Indiana's Joint Terrorism Task Force. His appearance was postponed because he had a scheduling conflict. Both Spencer and the FBI hope to reschedule.

Louay Safi, director of leadership development with the Plainfield-based Islamic Society of North America, said bringing Spencer in to talk of Islam is akin to bringing an anti-Semite to talk about Jews or a Ku Klux Klan member to talk about race.

"Many people in our community will not be happy with it," Safi said.

Spencer is the author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" and "The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion." He is also a director of Jihad Watch, a Web site that calls attention to the activity of Islamic jihadists.

The site includes his take on various writings by Islamic scholars and groups as well as the news of the day in the Middle East. In fact, he announced he was coming to Indianapolis to meet with FBI officials.

Safi said Spencer's writings take selected passages from Islamic writings out of context in an effort to prove the religion condones terrorism. He said the FBI's use of Spencer could reinforce views some Muslims hold that the bureau treats them unfairly.

"When they bring in someone like that, it makes it difficult even for us to explain to the Muslim community that (the FBI) is neutral and is not listening to extremists who really hate Muslims," Safi said.

Spencer said he is not an "Islamophobe," and that he understands a majority of Muslims are peaceful. But he said there is no mistaking that modern-day jihadists from Osama bin Laden to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi cite the teachings of Islam in rationalizing their attacks.

"Maybe Osama bin Laden is misusing the Quran, but the Islamic Society of North America has never formed a response to the way he misuses it," Spencer said.

Instead of facing up to the crisis within Islam, Muslim leaders too often aim criticism at those who point out these problems, Spencer said.
