Home-grown 'champion of Islam'
by Stewart Bell
Naeem Muhammad Khan wants everyone to "Support Our Troops," but he's not talking about the Canadian Forces in Kandahar.
From his apartment in Toronto, Mr. Khan has been posting messages on the Internet calling Osama bin Laden a "hero" and "champion of Islam."
The 23-year-old fundamentalist's online logo combines the black Taliban flag and the outline of an AK-47 above the "Support Our Troops" slogan.
Between sips of iced coffee at Tim Hortons, Mr. Khan explained that he is a supporter of the Taliban, as well as other armed Islamic groups.
" 'Support our Troops' means supporting the mujahideen [Muslim soldiers of God] who are fighting for their freedom and rights against illegal occupation in many, many places over the world like Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Kashmir, Palestine and Somalia," he said later in an e-mail.
Views like these are becoming increasingly common in Western countries, Canada included, and they are worrying to governments concerned about radicalism and violence.
Mr. Khan is an Islamist, not a terrorist, but what most disturbs moderate Muslims are his harsh comments about those who do not subscribe to fundamentalist beliefs.
In his online postings, Mr. Khan calls Tarek Fatah, Irshad Manji and other moderates "apostates," and says that under Islamic law, the punishment for apostasy is death. The same goes for those who insult Islam.
"Behead her!!! And make a nice video and post it on YouTube," he writes about one "Islam basher." As for "Jews who support Zionism and Israel
since they are killing Palestinians
killing them is not bad
they deserve to die."
Elsewhere he writes, "Those who hate Islam and want to destroy is [sic] will have their fates decided by the swords of Muslims Inshallah [ALLAH willing]."

DAR AL HARB-CANADA: MACLEAN'S ARTICLE HAS A "NEGATIVE IMPACT ON MOSLEMS"
No Ontario hearing on Islam article
LONDON, Ont.–A magazine article suggesting Muslims pose a threat to North America is Islamophobic and "promotes prejudice towards Muslims," the Ontario Human Rights Commission says.
Despite strongly worded condemnation of the Maclean's article, the commission announced yesterday that under the Ontario Human Rights Code, it could not legally proceed to hear a complaint led by local lawyer Faisal Joseph.
"We are concerned about the content ... We think it fosters stereotypes and has a negative impact on the (Muslim) communities," chief commissioner Barbara Hall said.
In Ontario, magazines are not covered under the rights code, she said.
In October 2006, Maclean's published "The Future Belongs to Islam," an excerpt from Mark Steyn's book, America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It.
"If you said these things (in the article) in a workplace, we would certainly take the complaint and it is very possible we could find discrimination in the workplace," Hall said.
A human rights hearing of the case is set for June in British Columbia. Its code covers publications.

DAR AL HARB-CANADA: WHEN FREE SPEECH OFFENDS MOSLEMS
When free speech offends Muslims
by Rondi Adamson
Toronto - "Everybody favours free speech in the slack moments when no axes are being ground," 20th-century American journalist Heywood Broun once wrote. The real test of mettle is allowing free speech to thrive while axes aggressively grind. Just ask Canadian publisher Ezra Levant and author Mark Steyn.
In February 2006, Levant's conservative magazine, the now-online-only Western Standard, reprinted the Danish Muhammad cartoons. Shortly thereafter, Syed Soharwardy, the national president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, filed a Koranic-verse laden complaint against Mr. Levant with the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission, claiming discrimination.
Canada's Human Rights Commissions (HRC) are government agencies, not courts. They were set up, starting in the 1960s, to fight job and housing discrimination – offensive acts, not words. Borne of good intention, some argue they have paved a path to politically correct hell. Those behind the creation of the commissions maintain they were never meant to impede free speech – a right guaranteed under Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms – and that "thought crime" cases represent a fraction of the commissions' work.
As many of those complaints were brought against crackpot anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers, or Christian fundamentalists expressing extreme antigay views, few Canadians wasted a moment worrying about them. Therein lies the cautionary tale. The odious have to be free to speak – provided they are not inciting violence – or none of us are.
With limited exceptions, the aforementioned cases received little attention. Then along came Levant. Even those to whom he is not beloved are waking up to the dangers of a lumbering system in which there are no real rules of procedure, the accused must pay their own way and could ultimately be compelled to pay a fine and apologize, while the complainant relies on taxpayers to protect his or her "human right" to not feel offended.
Levant is preternaturally media savvy, and when he made his appearance before the Alberta commission – this January – he had it videotaped, promptly posting the recordings on YouTube. Some 400,000 people have watched his bristly exchanges with the hapless commission representative. Levant, a lawyer, peppered her with questions of his own and reminded her of the freedoms that the HRC was trampling upon:
"For a government bureaucrat to call any publisher or anyone else to an interrogation to be quizzed about his political or religious expression is a violation of 800 years of common law, a Universal Declaration of Rights, a Bill of Rights, and a Charter of Rights. This commission is applying Saudi values, not Canadian values."
...
A motion has been put forth in Canada's parliament to remove the section of the Human Rights Act that prescribes speech. Organizations such as the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and PEN Canada (some of whose members can't abide Levant's and Steyn's politics) have called for similar amendments and for the complaints against Maclean's and Levant to be dropped.
The reverberations don't end there. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation recently did something it was too craven to do two years ago. During a news segment regarding the HRC, Canada's public broadcaster aired – briefly, fleetingly – the Danish cartoons. This is heartening. Much of the Canadian – and Western – left has seemed far too eager in recent years to buckle in the face of, and even sympathize with, Islamist extremism. Let's hope these cases bring about an understanding of what's at stake.
What doesn't offend moslems?!?!?!?!?!?

DAR AL HARB-U.K./CANADA: "IN ISLAM, THERE IS NO CIVIL/CRIMINAL DISTINCTION" - - - DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED UNDER SHARI'AH
Canadian activist slams faith-based courts
Rome, 15 Feb. (AKI) - Islamic courts must be be ruled out in Britain and other Western countries if the democratic rights of all their citizens are to be safeguarded, Iranian born activist Homa Arjomand, told Adnkronos International (AKI).
Homa Arjomand spearheaded a successful campaign to end faith-based arbitration in Canada.
She strongly disagreed with remarks made earlier in February by the head of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, who claimed that Islamic (Sharia) courts in Britain seemed "inevitable" and could aid "social cohesion".
Arjomand told AKI that adopting Sharia courts, promoting Islamic schools and Islamic centres would be giving in to political Islam.
She said such courts would deny immigrant women equality with men and increase discrimination towards them, as well as the religious and racial segregation of minorities.
"It is the state's duty to look after the well-being of all citizens, including women and children from so-called Islamic communities," said Arjomand, who is a secular Muslim.
The failed experience of faith-based courts in Canada , where Arjomand lives, demonstrated the need for a single legal system that treats all individuals equally, she said.
"No rights should be taken away due to cultural sensitivity - we need to draw a line and say so when religious law compromises women's rights," said Arjomand.
She is against multiculturalism and cultural relativity, which further divides society into cultural and religious groups, and "leaves people at the mercy of their own culture."
"There is a political agenda behind Williams' remarks,"Arjomand argued. "It is this: allow the Islamists some freedom and segregate them from us."
"The leaders of political Islam see their numbers growing and the problem of isolation," she said. "They see youths being drawn to imams. They see the terror attacks in various countries. They are trying to get a greater share of power in the West."
Williams said he did not want to create "parallel jurisdictions" in Britain. Citing the example of Islamic banking, he said incorporating aspects of Sharia law could help Muslims resolve family and financial disputes in keeping with their religious beliefs.
This should "be done with the greatest care" and "no aspect of Islamic law should remove any of UK citizens's rights," Williams said. He was seeking to clarify remarks he made last week which sparked a media furore and a barrage of criticism, not only from Christians.
But Arjomand disputed that democratic rights could be guaranteed under Sharia law. "In Islam, there is no civil/criminal distinction," she stressed. Islam sanctions extreme punishments such as amputation of limbs, stoning to death and flogging.
Islamic law is in opposition to established British legal traditions on many issues, including monogamy, divorce, the rights of women and custody of children, she said.
Death by stoning is the penalty for women who commit adultery, while Muslim men may enjoy multiple marriages, Arjomand pointed out. Under Sharia law, a Muslim may also divorce his wife by merely repudiating her three times, and gets custody of their children.
Moreover, Arjomand pointed out, in family disputes there is no right of appeal against a Sharia court's decision and Muslim women are face discrimination areas such as inheritance and pension rights as well as divorce.
Divorced women from the Pakistani community in Canada have been sent back to family members in Pakistan and separated from their children, she said.
"No Muslim women want to go through faith-based arbitration," she stressed.
Canada in 2006 outlawed faith-based arbitration following an international campaign by secularists against Sharia law.
Organised by Arjomand, the campaign followed a 2004 report recommending the introduction of Sharia tribunals in the Canadian province of Ontario where 600,000 Muslims live. It provoked widespread debate and street protests, both for and against the report's findings.
Faith-based tribunals had been set up by Catholic and Jewish communities in Ontario following the passing of the Arbitration Act in 1991 in an attempt to deal with a backlog of divorce, inheritance and custody cases in the Canadian courts.
Canada's Muslim population was in 2006 estimated at 783,700 or about 2.5 percent of the population. Muslims are the fourth largest immigrant faith group in the country, after Catholics, Buddhists and Jews.
There are an estimated 1.7 million Muslims in Britain, comprising 2.8 percent of the population. Islam is the country's second largest religion after Christianity.

DAR AL HARB-CANADA: 'HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLAINT' DROPPED AGAINST EZRA LEVANT
Muslim leader drops rights complaint
Calgary Muslim leader Syed Soharwardy says he is withdrawing his Alberta Human Rights Commission complaint against former Western Standard publisher Ezra Levant. The complaint was launched in February 2006, after the Western Standard and the Jewish Free Press reprinted cartoons from a Danish newspaper that many in the Muslim world felt insulted the Prophet Muhammad. The cartoons sparked violent protests in a number of countries. "Over the two years that we have gone through the process, I understand that most Canadians see this as an issue of freedom of speech, that that principle is sacred and holy in our society," said Mr. Soharwardy, president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada.

CALGARY - Calgary Muslim leader Syed Soharwardy says he is withdrawing his Alberta Human Rights Commission complaint against former Western Standard publisher Ezra Levant.
The complaint was launched in February, 2006, after the Western Standard and the Jewish Free Press reprinted cartoons from a Danish newspaper that many in the Muslim world felt insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
"I believe Canadian society is mature enough not to absorb the messages that the cartoons sent. Only a very small fraction of Canadian media decided to publish those cartoons."
Mr. Levant said he isn't buying Mr. Soharwardy's promise, calling it a "temporary, tactical truce." (aka HUDNA)
"I don't believe him. He thought this would be easy to do, just sic the human rights commission on me and it would be done. But I decided to fight back," Mr. Levant said.
Mr. Levant said he plans to launch a civil lawsuit against Mr. Soharwardy to recover the tens of thousands of dollars he said he has spent battling the complaint.
"I put in at least 100 hours fighting this guy. He may want to run away from this issue, but I'm not going to. His values are out of synch with Canadian society."
Mr. Soharwardy said he had received a number of "hateful" e-mails after the cartoons were published locally. He said he knows some of his supporters will see his decision as backing away from a fight.
"But I hope people see this as a positive action, that it will create better feelings between Muslims and all Canadians," Mr. Soharwardy said. "I'm not giving up working in the front lines. But I feel at this time withdrawing the complaint is the right thing to do."
After the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada filed the complaints against the two publications in 2006, Mr. Soharwardy and Jewish Free Press publisher Richard Bronstein met with a human rights commission mediator in March, 2007. They settled their dispute with a handshake and Mr. Soharwardy withdrew his complaint.
He only dropped the lawsuit because islam was being examined a bit too closely and whatever is usually found is pretty damned ugly...
No escaping that ugliness...

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: POLYGAMY IS OK IN CANADA, STATE BENEFITS PAID OUT TO HAREMS SINCE AT LEAST 1990
Muslims claiming cash for numerous wives
Islamic leaders: Hundreds in GTA get extra welfare for polygamous unions
By TOM GODFREY, SUN MEDIA
Hundreds of GTA Muslim men in polygamous marriages -- some with a harem of wives -- are receiving welfare and social benefits for each of their spouses, thanks to the city and province, Muslim leaders say.
Mumtaz Ali, president of the Canadian Society of Muslims, said wives in polygamous marriages are recognized as spouses under the Ontario Family Law Act, providing they were legally married under Muslim laws abroad.
"Polygamy is a regular part of life for many Muslims," Ali said yesterday. "Ontario recognizes religious marriages for Muslims and others."
He estimates "several hundred" GTA husbands in polygamous marriages are receiving benefits. Under Islamic law, a Muslim man is permitted to have up to four spouses.
However, city and provincial officials said legally a welfare applicant can claim only one spouse. Other adults living in the same household can apply for welfare independently.
The average recipient with a child can receive about $1,500 monthly, city officials said.
FAMILY LAW ACT
In addressing the issue of polygamous marriages, the preamble to the Ontario Family Law Act states: "In the definition of 'spouse,' a reference to marriage includes a marriage that is actually or potentially polygamous, if it was celebrated in a jurisdiction whose system of law recognizes it as valid. R.S.O. 1990, c. F.3, s. 1 (2)."
"There are many people in the community who are taking advantage of this," Ali said. "This is a law and there's nothing wrong with it."
Immigration officials said yesterday that polygamous marriages aren't allowed in Canada, but that contradicts the provincial law.
"Canada is a very liberal-minded country," Ali said. "Canada is way ahead of Britain in this respect."
He said Britain recently began permitting husbands to collect benefits for each of their wives.
The British government recently admitted that nearly a thousand men are living legally with multiple wives in Britain. Although the families are entitled to claim social security for each wife, the department for work and pensions said it has not counted how many are on benefits.
In Canada, Ali said, the man and his main wife and children enter Canada as landed immigrants. The other spouses are sponsored or arrive as visitors to join their husband to share one home.

Sharia law move quashed in Canada
The head of Canada's Ontario province has rejected attempts to allow Muslims to use Sharia law in family disputes.
A report by Ontario's former attorney general Marion Boyd had recommended the use of Islamic law to settle issues such as divorce and child custody.
But Premier Dalton McGuinty ruled against the move, saying there should be "one law for all Ontarians".
Protests were held against the Sharia law proposal in major Canadian cities, as well as in Paris, London and Vienna.
Critics said allowing Islamic tribunals could lead to discrimination against women.

introduce so-called Islamic Banking in Canada.
In a letter to Karen Kinsley, Chief Executive Officer of CMHC, the
president of the MCC Farzana Hassan said, "Islamic Banking is nothing more
than an attempt by Islamists, with backing from Middle Eastern Financial
Institutions and their Western partners, to scare Muslim Canadians into
believing that they should pay more to the banks and demand less in return, as
an act of religiosity."
"Sharia Banking is an obscene attempt to fleece an already marginalized
Muslim community while promising them the exact opposite. On the one hand
Imams are warning Muslims of hellfire if they deal with the existing banking
systems, and on the other the same clerics are being paid by banks to herd
Muslims towards a system that is based on lies and deception," the MCC
president added.

DAR AL HARB - THE WEST: THE BACK DOOR OF CHRISTENDOM HAS BEEN OPENED TO SHARI'AH LAW BY THE GREED, STUPIDITY & IGNORANCE OF WESTERN BANKS
Banks are helping sharia make a back-door entrance
TAREK FATAH
Special to Globe and Mail Update
It seems only yesterday that Premier Dalton McGuinty declared: "There will be no sharia law in Ontario." Many of us, who witnessed the medieval nature of manmade sharia laws in our countries of birth, heaved a sigh of relief back in September of 2005. We thought this was the end of the attempt by Islamists to sneak sharia into a Western jurisdiction. We were wrong.
The campaign to introduce sharia is back. Last time, the campaign took a populist approach, invoking multiculturalism. This time, the pro-sharia lobby is dangling the carrot of new niche markets and has the backing of Canada's major banks. Such icons of the corporate world as Citibank NA, HSBC Holdings PLC, and Barclays PLC have endorsed sharia banking and have started offering Islamic financing products to a vulnerable Muslim population.
In May, 2007, The Globe reported that "Several Canadian financial institutions are preparing sharia-compliant mortgages, insurance, taxi licensing and investment funds to help serve the country's fastest-growing part of the population." Recently, the Toronto Star's business section reported that an unnamed bank may offer sharia loans as early as this summer; Le Journal de Montreal disclosed that Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation(CMHC) was also getting in on the act. Stephanie Rubec, spokesperson for the CMHC, said the Crown corporation had launched a tender worth $100,000 to study Islamic mortgages for Muslim Canadians. Could she be oblivious to the fact that almost all Muslim Canadians currently have home mortgages through banks and don't feel they are living in sin? In fact, CMHC has gone a step further: It has quietly entered into a partnership with a Saudi company, AaYaan Holdings, to develop sharia-compliant mortgage-lending systems.
...
Read the whole thing and now think about all those billions of dollars that Merrill Lynch & Citibank recently received (because of their cash crunch) from the MIDDLE EAST...
Ohhh yeah, this article may be about CANADA but SHARI'AH FINANCE HAS JUST GOTTEN ENTRY INTO THE AMERICAN FINANCE INDUSTRY...

DAR AL HARB/ISLAM - U.S.A./CANADA/U.K.: THE JIHAD ON AMERICA'S FREEDOM OF SPEECH
Muslims have found a new way to stifle criticism of their fanatic ideology
By Vincent Gioia
MichNews.com
Jan 25, 2008
It seems that not all countries enjoy freedom of speech as prescribed by the United States constitution. In this country there is a well established body of law that gives us the right to say anything within reason without fear of legal challenge or a criminal penalty. Although this right is not absolute (Justice Holmes on the Supreme Court once said there is no right to yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre), the right of freedom of expression is quite real and extensive.
With regard to libel laws in this country, it is recognized that truth is a defense to any challenge to someone’s criticism of another and, moreover, public figures do not receive the same right of privacy in this regard that private individuals have. However, in some countries the burden of proof is on the defendant author and publisher to justify what was written and the plaintiff, i.e., the Islamist group, merely has to make the allegation. Even if the author may ultimately win, the deep pocket Muslims, having Saudi backing, will make it very expensive for the author and his publisher to succeed.
Unlike the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom do not provide the same freedom of speech, at least with respect to criticism of Islam and Muslims, and certainly not of Mohammad. This has been made readily apparent in the recent strategy by Muslim groups to sue authors and publishers of their writings they allege either insult or defame Islam or Mohammad in print, particularly in books and articles.
This Muslim strategy clearly portends a chilling effect on authors or any sensible expression of the truth about Islam. Publishers are reluctant to publish writings Muslims may consider offensive, thus depriving authors an opportunity to be heard. For example, even where authors are free to express themselves in books published in the United States, publishers interested in book sales abroad or on the internet with access in foreign countries, risk law suits by Muslims and their organizations, such as CAIR, for damages and to prevent sales in such countries; Canada and the United Kingdom being specific examples.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: MORE TELEVISED LECTURES ON JIHAD IN CANADA
***UPDATE***UPDATE***UPDATE***
Friday July 20th it was reported that Canada's Vision TV had broadcast a lecture on the moslem obligation to wage jihad, whethere it is armed or supported by $$$$...
Today we have an update on that story, it appears that Canada's Vision TV has decided that one lecture was not enough so they gave the jihad preaching imam more airtime:
VisionTV gives Islamic radical more air time
Jewish groups Outraged; Vision Backpedals On 'Regret' To Air Preacher
Stewart Bell, National Post
TORONTO - A day after saying it regretted broadcasting a lecture by a Pakistani preacher who says Muslim scripture advocates violent holy war and the "extermination" of Jews, VisionTV put him back on the air again this weekend.
A leading Jewish organization said yesterday it would launch a formal complaint with Canadian broadcast regulators after Vision aired another hour-long talk by fundamentalist Israr Ahmad on Saturday.
The preacher's reappearance on Canadian television came as a surprise to some, since VisionTV had issued a statement on Friday expressing regret for broadcasting Mr. Ahmad's lecture on violent jihad on July 14.
But despite the statement, Vision aired another lecture Saturday afternoon by Mr. Ahmad, who compares Jews to "parasites," describes the Holocaust as "divine punishment" and calls Jews "condemned."
"It is most troubling that VisionTV made a calculated decision to re-broadcast a segment featuring a radical Imam, whose words have the potential to incite hatred and violence," Frank Dimant of B'nai Brith Canada said yesterday.
"It is a complete abdication of their responsibility to knowingly give a platform to this individual whose calls for jihad can clearly be interpreted by his supporters as a call to engage in terrorism. B'nai Brith Canada will be launching a formal complaint with the CRTC calling for a full investigation of this matter."
Canadian Jewish Congress spokesman Len Rudner said he was "deeply concerned that Vision continues to provide a podium from which Israr Ahmad can speak and gain credibility.
"It's fair to say that we know what Mr. Ahmad stands for, the question now is whether or not VisionTV wishes to associate itself in any manner with an individual who holds such a hateful agenda."
Vision, which is available in 7.8 million Canadian households, has a strict code of ethics that forbids the broadcast of programs that could incite violence, overseas conflicts or strife between religions. Vision could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Last week, a Vision executive, Mark Prasuhn, described "Dr. Ahmad" as a religious scholar --he is a medical doctor --and in a recent interview the preacher acknowledged that he was not welcome in Canada. "I had no official information about a ban [from entering Canada] but I understood that I was not in the good books of the U.S. and the West, especially after 9 /11, due to my concept of radical Islam; which demands a Muslim to struggle against the prevailing corrupt and exploitative system in the world," he said.
Mr. Ahmad heads a self-described "revolutionary" organization called Tanzeem-e Islami, which wants to turn Pakistan into a fundamentalist Islamic state and a launch pad for the global domination of Islam.
Although he is a popular speaker in Pakistan, Mr. Ahmad's theories about a Jewish conspiracy to secretly rule the world through banking institutions have given him little credibility outside the Muslim world.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: A TELEVISED LECTURE TEACHES MOSLEMS THAT IT IS OBLIGATORY TO FIGHT OR FINANCE THE JIHAD
VisionTV defends airing 'jihad' lecture
By Stewart Bell
TORONTO • VisionTV says it will monitor one of its shows more closely after it broadcast a lecture by an Islamic preacher who said scripture requires Muslims to either fight jihad or finance it.
The multi-faith channel, available in 7.8 million Canadian homes, said it took the precaution following a complaint about last Saturday's broadcast of a lecture by the Pakistani fundamentalist.
In the hour-long talk, Israr Ahmad said, "Jihad in the way of Allah, for the cause of Allah, can be pursued either with your financial resources or your bodily strength when you go to fight the enemy in the battlefield."
"So jihad, the highest form, is fighting in the cause of Allah."
Mr. Ahmad runs a seminary and bookstore in Lahore, Pakistan, and his writings foresee the "global domination of Islam," compare Jews to "parasites," describe the Holocaust as "divine punishment" and predict the "total extermination" of Jews.
His followers in Canada include terror suspect Qayyum Abdul Jamal, who was arrested last summer for his alleged role in a plot to detonate truck bombs in downtown Toronto.
According to Mr. Jamal's wife, Mr. Ahmad was her husband's teacher and mentor.
The television program left some wondering how the Pakistani preacher, who claims that Jews control the world through a secret conspiracy involving financial institutions, made it on to Canada's government-regulated airwaves.
"Israr Ahmad is widely known for his hateful words and vilification of Jews," said Canadian Jewish Congress spokesman Bernie Farber. "We are deeply concerned that Vision would give this individual the imprimatur of Vision's credibility. It was a mistake in judgment and ought to concern all of us."
VisionTV's code of ethics forbids the broadcast of programs that glorify or incite violence or "have the effect of provoking or abetting domestic or international religious or political conflicts."
The broadcaster acknowledged that the show, Dil Dil Pakistan, had talked about jihad and fighting but said it did not contravene the station's policies against incitement because the comments were made in a historical context. But it said the show would be monitored more closely.
"We have essentially a system of flagging shows when complaints are made, where we'll watch subsequent episodes even more carefully than we otherwise do, and take extra care and caution. So that's certainly the case here," said Mark Prasuhn, VisionTV's chief operating officer and vice-president of programming.
Toronto resident Mindy Alter, however, said the message came through loud and clear when she tuned in to the show, which aired from 3 to 4 p.m. on July 14.
"The part about the jihad, he said very specifically that it is incumbent upon Muslims to wage jihad against their enemies until Islam rules supreme over the world," Mrs. Alter said.
"I'm sorry, I don't think that belonged over the airwaves of Canadian TV.... You can put that in whatever context you like. To me that's preaching jihad."
Responded Mr. Prasuhn: "Definitely, the viewer is correct. [Mr. Ahmad] does make the point about, you either contribute financially or through your body, and he uses the word fight. But none of this, as far as I could see, is in any way correlated or referenced to the present day. It is strictly a historical context and reading of the Koran by a Koranic scholar."

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: LET US GIVE A CHEER FOR IGNORANT & STUPID CANADIANS
Muslim candidates are reason to cheer
Three Muslim candidates representing all three major political parties in one riding? Now that's something to cheer about!
No one should think being a member of a religious, ethnic or racial minority or a woman is a hindrance to running for office. These candidates should give members of minority groups reason to think seriously about their own candidacies.
It's refreshing candidates for U.S. President include a Mormon, a black person and a woman. This wouldn't have happened 40 years ago.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: SOME MOSLEMS WAGE JIHAD VIA BOMBS, OTHERS WAGE JIHAD VIA WHINING
Everytime the jihad in the Dar al Harb hits the frontpages of newspapers, moslems all over the Dar al Harb come out whining about how they have it...

Muslims seek abuse probe
Racial intolerance leading to attacks at schools, group fears
By ANTONELLA ARTUSO, QUEEN'S PARK BUREAU CHIEF
A public inquiry is needed into allegations that students from racial minorities in Toronto public schools are being targeted for abuse and authorities are doing little to stop it, says a coalition of national and community groups.
Khaled Mouammar of the Canadian Arab Federation said his group is deeply concerned about the recent revelation that a sex attacker may have chosen a female Muslim student at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute based on her faith, and that the school never reported the incident to police.
"We feel it is a pattern that is emerging which is targeting students from racialized communities and it should be looked into seriously through a public inquiry," he said.
Mouammar said he's heard of children afraid to reveal their name is "Mohammed" for fear of bullying at school.
SENSITIVITY
The coalition of eight groups, including the Somali Canadian National Congress and Midaynta Community Services, is asking for a public inquiry, sensitivity and diversity workshops for school administrators, and a meeting with the education and public safety ministers and the attorney general.
"We also feel that the (Toronto) school board has not tried to reach out to the Muslim community and to the racialized communities since 9/11 to develop ways to combat the increase in racism and discrimination and harassment that's taking place, not only in the school system but everywhere," Mouammar said.
NEGATIVE PORTRAYALS
"We feel that there should be a way to understand why this thing happened and how can we prevent it from happening again."
Wahida Valiante, with the Canadian Islamic Congress, said negative portrayals of Muslims have left them vulnerable to maltreatment.
"In the case of the Muslim children, it is constantly their self-identity through their religious affiliation, through their names, under the microscope in the most negative way that I have ever seen."
While there has been a suggestion that Muslim girls are targeted for sex assault because they're less likely to report the incident, Valiante said all females victims struggle with going public.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: CONFERENCE RECONCILES ISLAM WITH CONTEMPORARY ISSUES
Conference reconciles Islam with contemporary issues - 20,000 Muslims to celebrate Canada day at Conference on July 1st, 2007
Thousands of Muslims and Non-Muslim guests as well as international delegates are attending the 31st annual convention of Canada's Ahmadiyya Muslim Community being held at the
International Center in Mississauga (Derry and Airport Roads) from June 29th
to July 1st, 2007, inclusive. Over 20,000 people are participating.
The three-day event presents a series of lectures by male and female scholars and educationists to promote and encourage the spiritual development of the participants as well as to address common misconceptions about Islam and its history.
On Sunday, July 1st, topics like atheism, humankind's quest for God and establishing household peace will be discussed. Canada Day celebrations will also be an integral part of this day's agenda.
The Saturday, June 30th session consisted of a lecture dispelling the common misconception that Islamic law is misogynistic by demonstrating that it promotes equality between Muslim men and women and noted that the Muslim practice of wearing of the veil is inspired by and in honor of Mary, the mother of Jesus. A lecture highlighting the debate between evolutionists,
creationists and the proponents of intelligent design, while not denying that human evolved, argued that the fossil record of paleontologists provides evidence of Divine design, was also presented.
The General Secretary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spoke of its members' commitment to serving humanity and the needs of the poor and needy, and asserted that this commitment is a duty imposed upon all Muslims by the Holy Qur'an.
Other lectures were of a theological nature, including a discussion on the wisdom of the use of metaphor in the Holy Bible and the Holy Qur'an as well as modern interpretations of key events in Islamic history.
Canadians from all walks of life interested in learning more about Islam and overcoming misconceptions regarding Muslims are attending this event. They will obtain a greater understanding of the true Islamic teachings on a range of issues as well as an appreciation of their historical context. Participants are also presented with an ideal opportunity to meet and interact with their fellow citizens, both Muslim and non-Muslim.
Many dignitaries representing different levels of government and constituencies within Canada are attending. On Saturday, June 30th, Her Worship Hazel McCallion received an award of appreciation from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for her long and dedicated service to the citizens of and to the city of Mississauga, the host city of this event. The Honourable Jack
Layton praised the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's ethic of tolerance and inclusion of other faiths in their events and their efforts to eradicate all forms of hatred. The Honourable John Tory congratulated the event's organizers for, once again, fostering and encouraging topical and important discussion. On Canada Day, the Honourable Premier Dalton McGuinty, the Honourable Greg Sorbara, Her Worship Mayor Susan Fennell and the Chief of York Regional
Police, Armand LaBarge will grace the event.
Each year, the primary purpose of the annual convention of Canada's Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is to provide participants with an opportunity to broaden and deepen their understanding of it and the religion of Islam. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is committed to contributing to the multicultural mosaic by helping to achieve a better Canada and by encouraging both Muslim and non-Muslim Canadians to come together and live according to their creed, "Love for All, Hatred for None."

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: TENSE RELATIONS BETWEEN CHRISTIANS & MOSLEMS ARE IN CANADA'S FUTURE
Muslim-Christian split becomes big new worry
On 140th birthday, fewer Canadians worry about English-French relations, survey finds
Randy Boswell, The Ottawa CitizenPublished: Wednesday, June 27, 2007
Canadians believe the country's traditional French-English tensions will be overshadowed by friction between Christians and Muslims when Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary a decade from now, according to a survey of attitudes by the Association for Canadian Studies.
Of the 1,500 people polled, 34 per cent said they were pessimistic about the future of Christian-Muslim relations and another 29 per cent expected tense interaction between aboriginal Canadians and non-aboriginals by 2017.
Respondents were much more optimistic that white Canadians and visible minorities, as well as Christians and Jews, would enjoy good relations in 10 years. Only 16 per cent and 14 per cent respectively were pessimistic about those relationships, similar to the 19 per cent who predicted troublesome French-English relations by the time Canada reaches its 150th birthday.
Twenty-three per cent said they were pessimistic about the relationship between religious and secular Canadians, and 22 per cent were pessimistic about immigrant-non-immigrant relations.
"For the most part, the results reflect a fair degree of optimism," says Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Montreal-based research association. "They do, however, suggest a shift in concerns away from language and inter-racial tensions to concerns over aboriginal-non-aboriginal and interfaith relations -- in particular relations between Christians and Muslims."
He noted that the Christian-Muslim relationship is a complex dynamic involving religious and cultural differences, highlighted by such flashpoint controversies as the debate over Shariah law and the expulsion of a female soccer player for wearing a hijab.
"Can you argue that this (tension) has displaced language concerns in Canada?" he asks. "I think you can, to some extent."
The poll, conducted in early June by Leger Marketing, is part of a series of public opinion surveys and studies commissioned by the ACS to mark Canada's 140th birthday on Sunday.
Mr. Jedwab said the survey on intercultural relations highlights a clear "paradigm shift" in Canadian anxieties from the traditional French-English divide to post-9/11 apprehensions about security on one hand and, on the other, racial profiling and similarly controversial practices that have stirred vocal opposition among Muslim Canadians.
Those tensions have been most pronounced in Quebec, the survey shows. It is the only province in which more respondents were pessimistic (49 per cent) than optimistic (47 per cent) about Christian-Muslim relations.
"Muslims are more of a focal point in Quebec," said Mr. Jedwab, citing the relatively high rate of Arab immigration to the province, the greater attention in Quebec given to the conflicts in France and other European countries with their Muslim communities, the broader rejection of religion in Quebec society compared with other provinces and the province's high-profile debate over "reasonable accommodation" of its religious minorities -- highlighted by controversies such as the town of Herouxville's "code of conduct" stereotyping of Islamic culture.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: CANADIAN BANKS: BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA & TORONTO-DOMINION ARE QUIETLY CONSIDERING IF THEY SHOULD OFFER SHARI'AH BANKING
Hello,
Yesterday I posted a story concerning this very thing...It doesn't seem to matter to Canadians (Americans too, as well as the majority of the non-moslem world) that the end goal of islam is to create a worldwide caliphate...
Islam & moslems cannot accomplish that without help from dhimmis, and it appears there is no shortage of very short sighted & misguided individuals that are completely ignorant when it comes to the game that is being played, the slow drip drip drip islamization of the West...
Islam, jihad & moslems want to set up parallel islamic systems within the West, so that when the tipping point is reached (demographically) the systems will be in place and the trap can be sprung. When that happens, Western dhimmis are going to look around and ask: When did this happen?!? Why wasn't I aware of it?!?
But while it is happening, they are helping their civilizations own demise...
It was like that in the 7th century when large swaths of Christendom were invaded and it appears it is almost the same in the 21st century, when The West (the descendant of Christendom) is helping in its own demise...
Comeeeeeeeeeeeeee onnn people ! ! !
I know golf, baseball, football, etc. are important but come the future you won't have it if you don't pay attention & fight against the jihad now...
Banks give sharia a second look
by TAVIA GRANT
TORONTO — Bank of Nova Scotia and Toronto-Dominion Bank are quietly considering whether to start offering sharia-compliant products, as part of the big banks' strategy to reach out to a growing immigrant population.
Representatives at Canada's second- and third-largest banks by market capitalization were among the 200 delegates at the Islamic Finance World conference in Toronto this week.
"I can confirm it's something we're tentatively looking at," said Frank Switzer, Scotiabank's spokesman, without providing further detail. TD spokeswoman Kelly Hechler said "it's something we're looking at and we're interested in."
That interest comes as Islamic financial services are growing in Canada and abroad. KPMG has estimated worldwide assets at more than $300-billion (U.S.), with global Islamic institutions growing at 15 per cent a year.
What was considered fringe three decades ago has now become mainstream. Global banks, from HSBC to Deutsche Bank, are offering sharia-compliant financial services as petrodollars fuel demand from the Middle East. The Gulf region alone has as much as $2-trillion (U.S.) in investments, much of which is flowing abroad.
"Every day we are told about the start of a new Islamic bank," Sheik Nizam Yaquby of Bahrain told the Toronto conference. Sharia-compliant products vary and there's little standardization in the sector, which is thought to be the fastest growing in financial services today. Generally, products can't have any explicit interest; transactions can't be in such areas such as gambling, alcohol, pork or pornography; and they can't be deemed as too high risk.
Practitioners liken it to any other form of socially responsible investing and stress that it's open to all religions.
Canada's been a bit late to the game, but momentum's building. Yesterday, iTrust Partners Inc. launched a $400-million (Canadian) sharia-compliant income fund for Middle Eastern and European investors that are interested in Canadian assets. BMO is the prime brokerage and CIBC is providing administrative services.
Retail demand in Canada is still unclear and that may be why the Big Five banks are slow to jump on board. At present, though, services such as mortgages are more expensive. UM Financial Inc. has provided sharia-compliant mortgages to almost 500 homeowners in Ontario - even though it charges a deposit and costs about 0.60 percentage points more than a regular mortgage. Its homeowner mortgages tend to be structured like a rent-to-own system to avoid interest.
Demand has been so great that UM Financial has stopped all marketing and has a 5,000-person waiting list of people who want to switch over from conventional mortgages to ones that are sharia-compliant, said Omar Kalair, the chief executive officer of UM Financial.
UM wants to offer its mortgages at prices similar to what the banks offer - and to do so it says it's talking with one of the Big Five banks about financial backing. He estimates there are about 200,000 Muslim households in Canada and wants to capture 2.5 per cent of that market within a year or two.
In Canada, lawyers from many of the big law firms were in attendance at this week's conference, scrambling to learn about the new, and potentially lucrative, field.
"Every indicator we've seen, both statistical and anecdotal, has made it clear that the retail market in Canada is a multibillion-dollar market," said Walied Soliman, a lawyer at Ogilvy Renault LLP.

DAR AL HARB - CANADA: IF MOSLEMS CANNOT GET SHARI'AH IN ONE WAY, THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER...A PUSH FOR ISLAMIC BANKING IS HERE...
Canadian Islamists trying to bring in Sharia
By Khalid Hasan
WASHINGTON: Canadian Islamists who have been trying to bring in Sharia into Canada, so far without success, have now chosen another route - Islamic banking.
According to Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, “In 2003, we saw Islamists trying to sneak Sharia into Canada through the backdoor of Family Law and under the cover of Multiculturalism. Now, they seem to be taking a different route. They claim they are introducing the seemingly innocuous ‘Islamic banking’ by claiming such banking to be ‘interest-free’ and ‘Sharia-compliant’. This is one more ploy to prey on the fears and insecurities of Muslim Canadians. Invoking Islam to make a fortune is only one part of the agenda. The other is to try one more time to make ‘Sharia’ part of the Canadian lexicon. Only this time, it has the backing of corporate lawyers and senior bankers who see big money at the end of the line. The whole concept is a fraud that will further marginalise an already marginalised community.”
Because they don’t charge interest, financial services, like mortgages, offered by Islamic institutions tend to be higher priced than those from secular. Fatah said ideally, Islamic financial institutions should operate in places with a Muslim majority. “If it hasn’t picked up, this is because the Muslim community is not foolish,” he said. Islamic financial services in Canada are being pushed by banking executives from the Muslim community who feel that by creating a niche they will be able to tap into an area non-Muslims can’t access. “It’s a complete fraud because what you are doing is you are adding interest upfront and building it into your investments and dishonestly calling it interest-free,” he added.
A Muslim Canadian business executive who manages a shipping business in Pakistan, said, “In essence, ‘Islamic’ banking is manipulative, deceitful and fraudulent at several levels. Any finance student will tell you that interest-based banking as we know it today is a component of inflation, risk and the opportunity cost of money. It is centrally regulated and transparent. Furthermore, by having a more efficient Aggregate Demand-Aggregate Supply dynamic, one can minimise the inflation component but the other two components are the basis of a regulated banking system that is a key aspect of economic and technological growth. The Islamists have their own arguments which probably culminate in: ‘why do something with honesty and transparency when religion can be misused to obfuscate the issue and concentrate power in the hands of a few’!” A report by Brian Adeba in the Ottawa publication The Embassy, says rules on interest, real estate and overcoming apprehension from both within and without the Muslim community make it tricky for Sharia-inspired banks to be set up in Canada.
