Jihad claims Israeli assassination of one of its leaders
Al-Quds Brigade of the Islamic Jihad in Palestine accused Israeli forces Wednesday of executing one of its leaders in Gaza Strip during incursions last night.
The brigade said in a statement that Yousif Sulaiman Al-Sumairi, 47, one of its top leaders in Gaza Strip, was killed after Special Israeli Forces surrounded his home last night.
"Al-Sumairi clashed with Israeli forces who arrested him later on and executed him in cold blood, in addition to his son and several others," the statement said.
The brigade promised to resist and revenge the blood of those killed in Jihad.
Meanwhile, Israeli fighter planes launched air raids earlier this morning, targeting several areas of northern Gaza Strip.
Palestinian security sources said, "There were three Israeli raids which included targeting empty areas with missiles in Bait Lahai and Bait Hanoun, but they caused no casualties." On the other hand, the Israeli Army said that its helicopters launched three raids earlier today on northern Gaza Strip areas.

DAR AL HARB-ISRAEL: HAMAS ATTACKING ISRAEL WITH AMERICAN WEAPONS STOLEN DURINGS ITS CONQUEST OF GAZA
'Hamas using US weapons against IDF'
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
According to Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip, most of the gunmen who have been fighting the IDF over the past few days are members of Hamas's armed wing, Izaddin Kassam.
"At least 2,000 Hamas gunmen have been deployed in the northern Gaza Strip to take part in the fighting," the sources told The Jerusalem Post.
The sources estimated that Izaddin Kassam has at least 15,000 members divided into four brigades in the Gaza Strip.
They added that the Hamas gunmen were using many American-made arms seized from the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority security forces in June.
Hamas says it captured thousands of M-16 and Kalashnikov rifles, and large supplies of ammunition during its weeklong conquest of Gaza. Hamas is also believed to have acquired weapons capable of penetrating armor and stockpiles of rocket-propelled grenades.
A senior Hamas official said Sunday that his movement had smuggled hundreds of rockets and mortars and tons of explosives into the Gaza Strip from Egypt in the past few months.
...
Other groups that are involved in the fighting include Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees and some splinter factions belonging to Fatah's armed wing, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades.
These three groups, which according to Palestinian sources are operating in coordination with Hamas, have also been behind many of the rocket attacks on Israel in the past few days. Altogether, the three groups have fewer than 1,500 gunmen in Gaza.
But Hamas has sought to play down the role of the other armed groups in the fighting in the hope that it will score points on the "Palestinian street" as the major force that fought "courageously" against Israel. Hamas is hoping that once the fighting is over, it will be able to declare "victory, as Hizbullah did after the war in 2006."

DAR AL HARB/ISLAM - U.S.A./IRAN/IRAQ: IRAN IS WINNING THE IRAQ WAR
Iran Is Winning The Iraq War
by Andy Selepak
A group called the Iran Policy Committee held a press conference on July 25 to declare that Iran, not the U.S., is winning the war in Iraq. The event featured the release of a new book, Baghdad Ablaze: How to Extinguish the Fires in Iraq.
Speakers agreed that while the Bush Administration has badly handled the Iraq war, giving Iran a chance to exploit the conflict and make tremendous gains, an immediate pullout of U.S. forces would make the situation worse, giving Iran even more power.
The book was written by Georgetown University Professor Raymond Tanter; Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, USAF (ret.); Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, USA (ret.); and R. Bruce McColm, the President of the Institute for Democratic Strategies.
Tanter and McColm, as well as William A. Nitze, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and Jed Babbin, the editor of Human Events and former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense, were at the press conference.
McColm said a key mistake was de-Baathification, a purge of Saddam loyalists in the Iraqi government and military forces, which led to a political and military vacuum in Iraq that Iran has exploited for its own purposes. Babbin said that one of the big mistakes the U.S. made was occupying Iraq for the long term, rather that just draining "the swamp" and deposing the Saddam regime.
Babbin said the administration's War on Terrorism is misleading because it needs to be a "War Against States that Sponsor Terrorism," adding that "Iran is the central terrorist nation in the world" and is not being adequately confronted by the U.S. for its military interference in Iraq and the region. He said, for example, that U.S. military commanders know that explosive devices coming into Iraq to kill U.S. soldiers are from Iran.
McColm said Iran's objective is to create an Islamic Republic in Iraq, in order to complement and facilitate the activities of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. An Islamic Republic in Iraq would create a Shiite Crescent of influence and provide Iran with a direct land route to Syria to supply terrorists in Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza with military equipment.
However, McColm said, Iran faces problems of its own. He said that because of its failure to modernize its oil industry, Iran may not be able to export oil by 2015. Hence, the regime could lose international influence and stature. In addition, the regime faces serious internal opposition and dissent at home.
In Iraq, he said, Iran funds religious schools and mosques, especially in the Shiite-dominated south. Iran has also provided medical, charitable, and welfare assistance to the local Shiite populations that are in desperate need of such services in the face of an ineffective Iraqi government. Iran has seven Arabic language television stations that broadcast pro-Iranian messages to Iraq and influence elections there.
McColm said U.S policy in the past actually encouraged Iranian influence in Iraq, mistakenly thinking this would help stabilize the country. McColm said U.S. policy should be to strengthen Iraq's status as an independent nation and get it more involved in the global economy.
A big question is how U.S. forces could eventually be withdrawn. Tanter said there are several problems. One, the U.S. occupation of Iraq has become an excuse for terrorists to grow in power and influence. Two, Iraqis don't like the U.S. occupation and want their own forces to provide security. And three, Iran is providing Sunni and Shiite insurgents with training, weapons and funding.

DAR AL HARB - ISRAEL/HOLY LAND: ISLAMIC JIHAD CONTINUES TO FIRE ROCEKTS INTO ISRAEL - - - IT'S NATURAL FOR THEM TO DO SO
Islamic Jihad renews rocket attacks on Israel
GAZA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Saraya al-Quds, armed wing of Islamic Jihad (Holy War) in Gaza, said on Sunday that its militants launched nine homemade rockets into the southern Israeli towns of Sderout and Ashkelom.
"Our Mujahidin (Holy fighters) launched this morning four medium-range al-Quds rockets at Sderout and five rockets of the same kind at Ashkelon," said the group in a leaflet faxed to reporters.
"The Israeli occupation forces confessed that one of our rockets hit the college of Sabir in the center of Sderout," it added.
Israeli Radio quoted security sources as saying that a homemade projectile fired from Gaza hit the Sabir college in the town of Sderout, causing big damages to one of the buildings but no casualties.
"The rockets attacks are a natural Palestinian response to the policy of assassinations practiced by Israel against our people round the clock," the group defended its attacks on Israel in the leaflet.

HOLY LAND: WILL THE 'PALESTINIAN' AUTHORITY DISINTEGRATE?!?
ISRAELI MINISTER SAYS PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY COULD 'DISINTEGRATE'
Tel Aviv, 22 May (AKI) - Israeli defence minister Amir Peretz warned Tuesday that the Palestinian Authority is on the verge of disintegrating. "If the international community does not stop the terror organizations, we will find ourselves in a situation where the Palestinian Authority will completely disintegrate," Peretz said at a newsconference with European Union policy chief Javier Solana. The Israeli defence minister also asked the EU to renew its sanctions on the Palestinian Authority an dnot to relase frozen funds.
Peretz maintained that, "all the goodwill demonstrated when building the Palestinian unity governement must now end. "The unity government is not functioning in today's anarchic situation in the Gaza Strip, but instead is legitimizing murder in Gaza and the continuation of rocket firing at Israel. The positive atmoshpere that was once expressed by this government is now overshadowed by the wave of violence that they themselves began."
The defense minister said that Israel had done all it could to maintain the cease-fire. "We were blamed for showing too much restraint, but until Hamas was not involved - until it wasn't clear what part the unity government had [in the firing] - we did everything to show restraint. Today, Hamas is the one leading the violence, defending the firing, and we do not intend to stop, unless the firing ceases."

HOLY LAND: BETHLEHEM MUSLIM GANG ACCUSED OF USING STOLEN DOCUMENTS TO GRAB CHRISTIAN'S LAND
Bethlehem Muslim gang accused of using stolen documents to grab Christians' land
Dozens of Christian families from the Bethlehem area are about to discover that their homes and lands have been "sold" to Muslims without their knowledge, Palestinian Authority security officials said Thursday.
The officials told The Jerusalem Post that members of a local Muslim gang have been arrested on suspicion of stealing land and property registration documents from the Bethlehem Magistrate's Court.
Bethlehem Governor Salah Ta'mari confirmed that an investigation was under way to determine who was behind the theft. He said most of the stolen documents belonged to families living abroad.
A Christian businessman told the Post that most of the victims were Christian families living in the US and Latin America. "They are stealing our homes almost every day," he said. "We believe the suspects have been receiving help from some Palestinian security officers here."
The scam was uncovered when court officials complained that many files relating to cases involving ownership of property had disappeared, a security official said.
Initially, police thought thieves had broken into the court and stolen the files, he added.
However, further investigation revealed that the theft was an inside job. Three court employees and five land dealers were later arrested in connection with the case.
The official refused to reveal the land brokers' identities, but sources in the city said some of them were not real land dealers.
"These are people with close ties to the Palestinian security forces," the sources said. "We have written to the Palestinian Authority demanding a full inquiry. This is one of the biggest scandals in Bethlehem and many families are very worried that they may lose their property."
"The phenomenon of forging land registration documents has existed in Bethlehem for nearly 15 years," Ta'mari said. "We have resisted attempts to hinder the investigation and we are determined to fully pursue our efforts."

DAR AL HARB - ISRAEL: QASSAM ROCKETS, ISLAMIC JIHADS & DEALS
Abbas deal with Islamic Jihad seeks to end Qassam rocket attacks
By Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has reached an agreement in principle with senior Islamic Jihad officials, whereby the organization would stop firing Qassam rockets at Israel for three weeks.
Israel Defense Forces sources confirmed there has been a sharp drop in rocket fire as a result of the agreement. Other attacks, however, such as sniper fire along the Gaza Strip security fence, have continued on a small scale.
Abbas and other senior Fatah officials have conducted an intensive effort to bring the Islamic Jihad into an agreement on renewing the tahadiyeh (calm) with Israel along the Gaza border. This is an internal Palestinian agreement, and not an accord with Israel.
Islamic Jihad has been the main perpetrator of rocket fire in recent months, and in many cases Hamas militants have given Islamic Jihad their rockets to fire at Israel.
The issue of restoring the tahadiyeh was also discussed in a Damascus meeting this week between former Palestinian prime minister Ahmed Qureia of Fatah and Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ramadan Salah.
It appears that while senior Fatah and Islamic Jihad officials have agreed to halt the rocket fire, Islamic Jihad militants have fired at least one rocket in recent days without taking responsibility for the attack. In addition, Abbas will apparently turn a blind eye to "low profile" attacks such as Hamas sniper fire and mortar fire on IDF outposts along the Gaza Strip.
In recent months, an average of 10 rockets were fired per week from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Last week, only three rockets were fired, according to the YeshaNews Web site, which tracks the number of rocket launches. This week, only two rockets have been fired.

DAR AL HARB / ISLAM - E.U.: THE E.U. GETTING CHUMMIER & CHUMMIER WITH HAMAS VIA THE NEW PALESTINIAN GOVERNMENT
EU boosts Palestinian ties by meeting finance chief
By Shada Islam
dpa German Press AgencyPublished
Brussels- The European Union on Wednesday vowed to help streamline Palestinian finances, boosting the internationalcredentials of the new Palestinian unity government which includes the militant Hamas group and the moderate Fatah movement.
The EU pledge, made to Palestinian Finance Minister Salam Fayad intalks in Brussels, also paves the way for a slow resumption of direct aid to the beleaguered Palestinian Authority.
Following up a decision by EU foreign ministers last month to opencontacts with non-Hamas members of the new Palestinian government,Ferrero-Waldner said Fayad - a well-respected technocrat - was a"long and valued partner."
Ferrero-Waldner said the EU continued to demand that the new Palestinian government must recognize Israel, renounce violence andabide by past peace treaties.
But a "further factor is the words and actions of the governmentand ministers," she underlined.
The commissioner said she was also ready to meet PalestinianForeign Minister Ziad Abu Amr and Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti. The bloc has long maintained contacts with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

First the E.U. created "the Palestinians" by referring to 'Arabs living in Palestine' as a special group: "the Palestianians" and now, they intend on making Hamas legitimate...

DAR AL HARB - ISRAEL/HOLY LAND: "ARAB OF PALESTINE" JIHADIST KILLED
IDF shoots dead Jihad gunman on Gaza border
By Amos Harel
An IDF unit yesterday shot and killed an Islamic Jihad militant on the border with the Gaza Strip. Another militant was injured in the incident.
Soldiers from the Givati Brigade engaged three militants they saw approaching the border fence in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The three fled, but the soldiers gave chase several hundred meters into the Gaza Strip.
In the exchanges of fire, one of the Palestinians, Ramiz Al-Zaneen, was killed, another was injured and the third was arrested.
During the incident, the militants detonated two bombs they had planted on the Palestinian side of the fence. There were no injuries among the IDF soldiers.
In recent weeks, the political leadership has permitted the IDF to enter the Gaza Strip in order to prevent the placing of bombs by militants, or to uncover tunnels near the fence.

DAR AL HARB / ISLAM - LEBANON: "OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO COMBAT THE JEWS IN PALESTINE. WE WANT TO PLANT THE BANNER OF ISLAM IN PALESTINE."
Lebanon Islamists recruit Palestinians to fight Israel
Bearded young Palestinians parade with rocket-launchers during training in north Lebanon organised by Fatah al-Islam, a tiny group accused of terror attacks and links with Al-Qaeda.
The new recruits also carry assault rifles and heavy machine guns as they march alongside militant Abu Salim, who hides his face under a red-and-white chequered headscarf.
"Our main objective is to combat the Jews in Palestine. We want to plant the banner of Islam in Palestine," Abu Salim told AFP.
He said Fatah al-Islam, which first came to be known last November, "offers military training to young Palestinians" in a field near the sea at the Nahr al-Bared camp that houses about 22,000 refugees.
The training generally takes place at night to maintain secrecy. The recruits learn how to handle the arms near one of the group's offices in the camp under the watchful eye of black-clad guards.
In a hangar, the militants are introduced to medium and heavy weaponry, including anti-tank rocket launchers and cannons.
The Palestinian group counts about 150 militants among its ranks, some of whom have fought against the US-led coalition in Iraq. The group also has the largest arsenal among the various armed factions in Nahr al-Bared.

HOLY LAND: HAMAS IS GROWING WITH IRAN'S HELP
U.S. says Hamas forces growing faster than Abbas's
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - With Iranian help, Hamas forces are expanding fast and getting more sophisticated weapons and training than those under Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's control, according to the U.S. security coordinator.
U.S. Lieutenant-General Keith Dayton said Hamas's growing military strength, if left unchecked, would erode Abbas's already limited ability to enforce any ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and increase the chances of Israeli military intervention.
Dayton delivered his assessment in a series of closed-door briefings late last week to congressional leaders and staff, sources familiar with the discussions said on Wednesday.
Concerned about Abbas's coalition government with Hamas, a group that Washington considers a terrorist organization, the U.S. Congress has blocked $86 million in U.S. funding to bolster Abbas's presidential guard and national security forces.

HOLY LAND: HAMAS TO UNDERGO A SPLIT BECAUSE OF THE 'MECCA AGREEMENTS'?!?
Hamas faces split over Mecca accords
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
The national unity agreement that was reached last month in Mecca has triggered a behind-the-scenes power struggle in Hamas, sources close to the Islamic movement in the Gaza Strip revealed Tuesday.
Meanwhile, fierce fighting erupted Tuesday evening between Hamas members and gunmen belonging to a large clan in Gaza City, Palestinian security officials reported. The clashes began after a car carrying several Hamas members was fire upon in the Zeitoun neighborhood, they said, adding that Ala Hadad, a senior Hamas operative, was killed and four others injured.
"Hamas is facing a serious split," the sources said. "Opposition in Hamas to the Mecca agreement is growing as some of the movement's senior officials are talking about a possible revolt."
The "rejectionist" camp in Hamas, led by Interior Minister Said Siam and Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud a-Zahar, is opposed to the Mecca agreement under the pretext that Hamas made too many concessions to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction.
Both Siam and Zahar have privately criticized Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and Syria-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal for signing the agreement, a top Hamas official in Gaza City told The Jerusalem Post.
He said the two, along with a number of senior Hamas figures in the Gaza Strip, have refused to participate in coalition talks with Fatah representatives over the past few weeks. The two are expected to lose their jobs in the new Hamas-led coalition.
"Siam and Zahar are unhappy with the agreement not only because they won't serve in the unity government, but because they believe that Hamas has made far-reaching political concessions," the official said. "They are convinced that Hamas is gradually abandoning its ideology as Fatah did when it signed the Oslo Accords with Israel more than a decade ago."

DAR AL HARB - ISRAEL: JIHADISTS OF 'PALESTINE' RECEIVE TRAINING FROM IRAN
'Hamas members training in Iran'
By SHEERA CLAIRE FRENKEL AND JPOST.COM STAFF
Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin warned the government that Hamas was strengthening its ties with Iran, during his address to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee (FADC) on Tuesday.
Hamas has sent hundreds of gunmen to Iran to receive weapons training, Diskin told the FADC.
Diskin was quoted as telling the committee that the training often lasted several months and included special weapons and bomb making training.
Diskin also revealed that 31 tons of dynamite were smuggled into Gaza during 2006, and that there were 50 different terror-attack schemes that were currently planned in the Gaza Strip, but ultimately meant to be launched from the West Bank.
Diskin added that there was a competition among terror organizations in the West Bank to try and reach Israel.

HOLY LAND: ISLAMIC JIHAD, FATAH, HAMAS, AL AQSA MARTYRS BRIGADE TO WREAK HAVOC IF IRAN IS ATTACKED
Palestinians will respond to attack on Iran
Terrorists say Tehran providing instructions in case US, Israel strike atomic facilities
Aaron Klein, WND
All the major Palestinian terrorist organizations are preparing to work together and hit out at Israeli targets in the event Iran is attacked, Abu Ahmed, the northern West Bank chief of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, told WND.
"Our strategy is not to leave the Islamic alliance (Iran) alone against the enemy. All Palestinian organizations will work together in shooting rockets, suicide bomb attacks and other steps and actions decided closely."
The Brigades is the declared military wing of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party. Together with Islamic Jihad, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades has taken responsibility for every suicide bombing in Israel the last two years.

US, Israel on target list
He threatened his terror group will target American interests in the Middle East whether any purported strike against Tehran is carried out by Israel or the US.
"The Zionists and the Americans are coordinated 100 percent. It doesn't matter who attacks Iran, we are planning to hit them both," said the Islamic Jihad leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he said the topic was "very sensitive."
He said overall Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shallah has been coordinating war plans with Iran, Syria and the Iranian-backed Hizbullah Lebanese militia. Shallah resides in Damascus and travels frequently to Tehran.
Israeli security officials told WND Israel was not currently planning to strike Iran. Speaking theoretically, they said if any war broke out involving Iran, they expected Syria, Hizbullah and Palestinian terrorists to join the fray and attack Israel.
The security officials said the greatest threat posed by Syria centred on the country's missiles. They noted Syria recently test-fired two Scud-D surface-to-surface missiles, which have a range of about 250 miles, covering most Israeli territory. The officials said the Syrian missile test was coordinated with Iran and is believed to have been successful.

HOLY LAND: ISLAMIC JIHAD PLANS ON ATTACKING ISRAELI TARGETS / INTERESTS IN EGYPT
Islamic Jihad denies plans to bomb Israeli targets in Egypt
GAZA, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad denied reports suggesting it intended to attack Israeli targets in Egypt, noting that Jihad's strategy was confined to resisting occupation within the boundaries of the Palestinian territories.
Islamic Jihad has no strategy in executing armed operations outside occupied Palestine even if these operations were aimed against Israeli targets, Khalid Batsh, an Islamic Jihad commander, told reporters in Gaza on Sunday.
"We categorically deny existance of the intention of Islamic Jihad to execute military operations against Israeli targets on Egyptian soil", he said, adding that Islamic Jihad "does not think this way".

ISRAEL / HOLY LAND: ISRAELIS ARRESTED FOR CHANNELING FUNDS TO HAMAS & ISLAMIC JIHAD
Police: Israeli firms channeled funds to Hamas, Islamic Jihad
Police said Sunday they raided had arrested workers and an executive at two Ramat Gan companies, suspected of helping channel funds to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Lawmen raided offices of Shintrako Ltd. and Mayan Customs Brokers and International Forwarding Sunday in the Tel Aviv suburb, police said in a statement.
Police arrested the general manager of Shintrako and other workers of the two companies, the statement said.
"The companies are suspected of funding Hamas and Islamic Jihad through a company they did business with in the Gaza Strip," the statement said.
Shintrako had been warned not to work with the company but found ways to help it get around trade restrictions imposed by Israel, the release said.
Police have reported an increase over the past year in the flow of clandestine finance to Palestinian militant groups squeezed by a financial blockade imposed by international aid donors since Hamas last year won parliamentary elections and control of the Palestinian government.
"These funds are used as fuel to ignite terror and they allow these organizations to preserve and expand their organized infrastructure," the police statement said.

DAR AL ISLAM: IF THE U.S. CAPTURES RAMADAN ABDULLAH MOHAMMAD SHALLAH WE SHALL WAGE JIHAD ON YOU
Islamic Jihad threatens to target US over leader
GAZA - The Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group on Tuesday threatened to retaliate against the United States if it tried to capture its Damascus-based leader.
Washington said on Monday it would offer a $5-million reward for information leading to the capture of Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad Shallah, the Islamic Jihad leader. It offered the same amount for a member of Lebanese Hezbollah.
“Violent operations will target all American interests if they attempt to harm the secretary-general, Dr. Ramadan Shallah,” said Abu Ahmed, a spokesman for Islamic Jihad’s armed wing.
Regarded by Israel and the United States as a terrorist group, Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for a string of deadly suicide bombings in Israel, including one last month in the Red Sea resort of Eilat that killed three people. Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades also took part in the Eilat attack.
Senior Islamic Jihad leader Khaled al-Batsh said the United States decided to offer the $5-million reward to bolster an Israeli campaign against the group following the Eilat bombing.
“It (Shallah’s capture) would unleash a new wave of violence and actions of legitimate resistance, and those who issued the decision will be responsible,” Batsh told reporters in Gaza.
The State Department said Shallah was wanted for conspiracy to conduct the affairs of Palestinian Islamic Jihad through activities such as bombings, murder, extortions and money laundering.
