IDF shoots dead Jihad gunman on Gaza border

An IDF unit yesterday shot and killed an Islamic Jihad militant on the border with the Gaza Strip. Another militant was injured in the incident.
Soldiers from the Givati Brigade engaged three militants they saw approaching the border fence in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The three fled, but the soldiers gave chase several hundred meters into the Gaza Strip.
In the exchanges of fire, one of the Palestinians, Ramiz Al-Zaneen, was killed, another was injured and the third was arrested.
During the incident, the militants detonated two bombs they had planted on the Palestinian side of the fence. There were no injuries among the IDF soldiers.
In recent weeks, the political leadership has permitted the IDF to enter the Gaza Strip in order to prevent the placing of bombs by militants, or to uncover tunnels near the fence.
