Report: Israel objecting to U.S. arms sale in Gulf
NEW YORK (AP) - Objections from Israel are delaying a major U.S. arms sale to American allies in the Persian Gulf.
According to the New York Times, the Bush administration is offering the weapons, including tanks, warships and air defense systems, to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf allies in an effort to deter Iran.
Israeli officials are balking, saying the advanced weapons systems would cut into the military advantage it has over its regional rivals.
Israel is especially concerned about the transfer of precision-guided weapons that could make Saudi warplanes much more accurate in striking targets.
The United States has been selling Israel such weapons since the 1990s and Israel used them in its war last summer against the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

It is not wise to arm your enemies even if the intelligenstia call them "allies"...
