Iran Starts Construction Of Its First Domestic Nuclear Power Plant

Construction has begun on Iran's first domestic nuclear power plant, ISNA news agency on Wednesday quoted Vice- President Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh as saying. Aqazadeh confirmed that following an order by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran had started building its first domestic nuclear plant with a capacity of 360 megawatts.

Aqazadeh, also head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, gave no further details.

Iran's only nuclear power plant is in the southern Persian Gulf port of Bushehr but the joint project with Russia has not yet been finished.
