Vienna- The European Union strongly criticized Iran'srefusal to suspend its uranium enrichment related activities, asdemanded by UN Security Council resolution 1737.In a statement in Vienna made at a meeting of the IAEA board of governors, Germany, which holds the rotating EU presidency, stressed that Iran must suspend its activities.
German ambassador Peter Gottwald told journalists that Iran'sintention to install further 18 centrifuge cascades for enrichment "unacceptable behaviour."
The IAEA board on Wednesday considered a report by IAEA DirectorGeneral Mohamed ElBaradei, that confirmed Iran not only ignored thecalls for suspension but sped up its enrichment activities.
Due to lack of cooperation and transparency on part of Iran the UNnuclear watchdog remained unable to verify the history of Iran's nuclear programme, the report said.
The EU statement came as meanwhile in Tehran, Iranian PresidentAli Larijani said on state television that Iran would "soon" enter the next phase of uranium enrichment, namely introducing uraniumhexafluoride (UF6) into its centrifuge cascades.
