Austrian Freedom party fined for using images of Muslim women in campaign
VIENNA, Jan 11 (KUNA) -- An Austrian court fined the Austrian Freedom Party 7,500 Euros Thursday for using pictures of Muslim women donning the headscarf without their permission in campaign literature during the October elections.
The Freedom Party's campaign captioned a picture of four Muslim women with the xenophobic phrase. The image was widely distributed as part of the Freedom party's campaign.
The four women asked the Green Party to sue the Freedom Party on their behalf. The Freedom Party was fined 7,500 euros and court costs; the plaintiffs had asked for double that amount.
Freedom Party leader, Heinz Christianne Stracher said, the photo was indeed taken without the women's consent but did not represent them as extremist Muslims.
I do not have access to my copy of the Umdat al Salik, I will in a day or two (loaned it to a friend), but I believe I remember that there is a prohibition about photographs, etc. (remember reading all these references at the time of the CARTOON JIHAD)...Once I have my hands on the Umdat al Salik, I will fill in the blanks here at this post...
If indeed there is islamic law on the taking of pictures, as I remember there is, that means the Austrian court has unwittingly (hopefully it is unwittingly - - - but too late for them now) applied Shari'ah law to Austrian citizens...
