Muslims radicalization, Indonesia and the US policy
Regional-Indonesia, Politics, 12/9/2006
The leader of one of Indonesia's largest Islamic organization warned Thursday that unjust American policies are fueling radicalization in the Muslim world.
"There is a deep-seated feeling among the Muslim community worldwide, including in Indonesia, that the US has not been balanced in its policy towards the Middle East and the Islamic world," Din Syamsuddin, chairman of Indonesia's second largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah, told a conference in Brussels this morning.
"If this imbalance and injustice continues, it will encourage radicalization among certain Muslim groups," said the charismatic 47-year old leader of Muhammadiyah, which claims a membership of 30 million people.
Syamsuddin is in Brussels to attend the EU-Indonesia Day organized by the European Commission.
