Iran won't be discouraged by Western threats on nuclear program

Ahmadinejad TEHRAN, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Sunday the Western countries' threats against Iran over its nuclear program would not frighten the Iranian people who decided to continue to enrich uranium.

"These threats will not discourage the Iranian people from continuing their nuclear program which complies with international laws, but (the people) will continue strongly and will not retreat," Ahmadinejad said while receiving a group of Iranian engineers.

The Iranians will continue with their nuclear program and will, at the same time, stick to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT), he added.

"Tehran has always been faithful in the principle of dialogue in addition to defending its legitimate rights and principles," said Ahmadinejad.

The Iranian regime is at odds with the West over its controversial nuclear program. The West argued that the Iranian nuclear program is designed to produce nuclear weapons, but Tehran denies the allegations and said it was solely for peaceful means.

Iranian top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani held some meetings with the European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana recently in yet another bid to reach an agreement that will calm fears of the West over the nuclear program.
