U.S. Iran estimate lowers anxiety among mullahs

U.S. officials said indications from Iran suggest that the U.S. National Intelligence Estimate reversing U.S. policy on Iran’s nuclear weapons program had reduced Iranian leaders’ anxiety about a U.S. attack.


Still several mid-level Iranian leaders expect further international sanctions and continued political pressure, while some in Tehran criticized Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad for rushing into a euphoric reaction to the NIE.

The most significant stated was made Jan. 3 by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who while not commenting directly on the NIE, stated on Iranian television that the “possibility of an American military strike" was "less likely today than in the past.”

The United States was not going to attack anyway, a dhimmi President doesn't make for aggressive foreign policy via bombs...
