DAR AL HARB - AUSTRALIA: EXPANDING THE PROBE & INVESTIGATING MOSLEMS WORKING ON TEMPORARY VISAS

Police expand probe of militant Muslims tied to Britain bombings

Sydney - The Indian doctor held in Australia over the failed car bombings in Britain faced a second week of questioning Monday after police appealed to a court to extend his period of detention.

Brisbane doctor Mohammed Haneef, 27, was picked up a week ago as he waited with a one-way ticket for a flight to India.

Police also seized laptop computers and mobile telephones in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney as they investigate a possible network of Muslim militants on temporary visas working in Australian hospitals.

'It's quite a complex investigation and the links to the UK are becoming more concrete,' Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said last week.

Police are going through 31,000 documents seized in the raids.
