Lebanese Army besieges Fatah Al-Islam militias in small area
BEIRUT, July 25 (KUNA) -- Nahr Al-Bared refugee camp Wednesday witnessed fierce clashes between the Lebanese Army and Fatah Al-Islam militants who are now besieged in a 200 square-meters area.
A Lebanese military source told KUNA the Army's main aim is to force the militias to surrender, adding military operations will end "as soon as the Fatah Al-Islam phenomenon passes." He stressed the Army does not object to a solution through mediation, adding that the phenomenon will either end by military operations or mediation.
The source pointed out that 119 soldiers of the Lebanese Army were killed since the clashes began on May 20.
The Army is shelling the militias holed up in the refugee camp in the north of the country and is trying to seize the last remaining small area still controlled by the group.
