Lebanese army launches new assault on Fatah al-Islam
The Lebanese army has launched a renewed assault on Islamic militants at a refugee camp near Tripoli.
The army surrounded the Palestinian camp of Nahr al-Bared in May, sparking weeks of fighting with the Fatah al-Islam militants based inside.
By the following month, at least 75 Lebanese soldiers, 50 militants and 32 civilians were reported killed in the clashes.
The Lebanese armed forces have now launched a new barrage of artillery fire on the camp, saying it is trying to tighten the noose and force the militants to surrender.
