Int'l, regional powers blamed for igniting Hamas-Fatah disputes
RAMALLAH, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Former Palestinian minister of information Mustafa al-Barghouti Thursday accused international and regional powers of igniting the ongoing internal Palestinian conflict.
"In spite of all the crucial circumstances, the rival movements (of Fatah and Hamas) managed to form a national unity government, however, the immense external pressures tensed the situation and infighting renewed," said al-Barghouti.
Asked if he means that Iran and the United States are combating on the Palestinian territories, al-Barghouti said "several countries are using the Palestinian people to achieve their political interest" but he didn't name them.
"External interference into the internal Palestinian affairs was the main reason for the collapse of the national unity government," he said, urging other countries to stop the intervention immediately.
He warned, "the continuation of disputes would for sure lead to the collapse of the entire authority."
