Hamas bringing sophisticated arms into Gaza, Israeli official says
Tel Aviv - The Islamist Hamas movement is bringing increasingly sophisticated weapons into the Gaza Strip, including anti-aircraft missiles and anti-tank rockets, a senior Israeli army officer said Thursday.
The organization has also managed to bring 20 tonnes of explosives into the Strip within one month, the officer said, in remarks quoted by the Ha'aretz daily.
He said Hamas is able to bring large quantities of weapons into the salient because the border with Egypt remains completely porous, following Hamas' takeover of the Strip last month.
