Police at Reading station to deal with security threat
By James Durkin

ARMED police have been drafted into Reading Station as Britain remains on heightened alert following the Glasgow airport car bomb and foiled London terror plots.

Reading Station, the second busiest railway hub outside the capital, is the gateway to the south west, a key link in the UK's transport network.

Police, carrying side-arms and machine guns, have patrolled the station all week. Thames Valley Police spokesman David Paull explained the deployment was only during busy periods.

He added: "This is not because any specific intelligence has been received about the stations, but because all forces have been asked to increase security at key transport hubs."
