DAR AL HARB - SINGAPORE: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DONATE YOUR ORGANS UPON DEATH, YOU BETTER REGISTER

Singapore to assume all Muslims are organ donors

Singapore's Muslim authority has made a new ruling that hospitals can assume all Muslims are willing organ donors unless they choose otherwise.

Under Singapore's laws, hospitals can remove the kidneys, liver, heart and corneas of all non-Muslim citizens or permanent residents when they die, unless they have registered not to donate their organs.

The head of the office of the Mufti at Singapore's Islamic Religious Council, says it is the first religious ruling that will allow Muslims to be included under the Human Organ Transplant Act.

Singapore's Straits Times newspaper says Muslims make up 21 per cent of the 600 patients waiting for an organ transplant.
