Jihad musical 'is not out to cause offence'
PRODUCERS of a satirical musical that mocks the world of Islamic terrorism have defended their show ahead of its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Jihad: The Musical has come under fire for being staged so soon after the failed terror attacks in Glasgow and London.
The show tells the story of an Afghan peasant who becomes 'brainwashed' by a Jihadi gang and features songs such as 'I want to be like Osama' and 'I only see your eyes'.
Postings on the Government's petitions website call on Gordon Brown to "condemn this tasteless portrayal of terrorism and its victims".
But Jihad's producer James Lawler, of Silk Circle Productions, has moved to defend the show.
He said: "We have no intention of causing offence or insult with this show.
"It is simply a comedy musical, following the British tradition of high-kicking, high-spirited musical theatre about a fictional Afghan poppy farmer who falls in love with the wrong person and finds himself caught in a dilemma."
