Tehran Warns Of 'Longer Stride' Nuclear Drive
(RTTNews) - A day ahead of another round of talks with International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, Iran has warned that it would take a" longer stride" in its controversial nuclear program if the United Nations went ahead with slapping a third set of sanctions.
"What would be the benefit? Have the past two resolutions impeded our activities?," Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani was quoted as saying on Thursday.
"They can pass another resolution, and we would make another, longer stride. Therefore they cannot solve the Iranian nuclear program," he added.
Larijani's aggressive comments came as he prepared to discuss the row with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana in Portugal on Saturday.
Larijani refused to elaborate on the "potential longer stride", but said it would not necessarily mean accelerating the uranium-enrichment program.
