Slow-motion Tet
Al Qaeda is counting on sapping our will, and persuading America to choose to lose a war it could win.

Last week, a group of tribal leaders in Salah-ad-Din, the mostly Sunni province due north of Baghdad, agreed to work with the Iraqi government and U.S. forces against al Qaeda. Then al Qaeda destroyed the two remaining minarets of the al-Askariya mosque in Samarra, a city in the province. Coincidence? Perhaps. But al Qaeda is clearly taking a page from the Viet Cong's book. The terrorists have been mounting a slow-motion Tet offensive of spectacular attacks on markets, bridges, and mosques, knowing that the media report each such attack as an American defeat. The fact is that al Qaeda is steadily losing its grip in Iraq, and these attacks are alienating its erstwhile Iraqi supporters. But the terrorists are counting on sapping our will as the VC did, and persuading America to choose to lose a war it could win.

My personal take on this is that both Kagan & Kristol are wrong...

America is not being persuaded to lose a war by al queda, it is our very own government and the "rules of engagement" that it has set up for our military that has Americans tuning out because they want to win but our government is doing everything in their power to make them lose...

Our military is not permitted by our government to unleash its power because they have been lawyered, Geneva conventioned (rules that do not apply to the enemy that is being fought in Iraq and definitely not observed when it comes to the dismemberment, torture, etc. of our soldiers when they happen to fall into their hands), politically correctized into fighting a 'sissy war'...

American's are not interested in 'sissy wars', they want a war that is fought like Dirty Harry would fight it, no holds barred, all things go, etc...etc...etc...

American's want this to be true:

Currently, that is not true, hence American's have lost 'interest' in this war...

They don't want to see their military tied up in knots, unable to shoot at the enemy because they happen to be wearing shmatas, etc. with no identifying marks of a military nature while being shot at by those very people...

They don't want to see our military taking hits, that they don't need to take because the friggin dhimmi U.S. government wants to kiss moslem butt...

Moslems don't respect America because they are not afraid of her, if they were afraid of her they would respect her and personally I don't give one damned flying butt monkey if the whole world, including the moslem/Arab street hates America as long as they are afraid of her & respect her...

They can all rot in their 7th century islamic paradise as ordained by allah & old mohammad the pedophile, rapist, murderer, jihadist, etc...etc...etc...cut them off from everything that is infidel and see how long they will last slamming their foreheads on the ground 5 times a day with their arses sticking up in the air...
