Mosque visit from Bristol police

Police in south Bristol have visited a mosque to improve understanding between themselves and the Muslim community.

Officers from Broadbury Road Police Station attended the Bristol Jamia Mosque on Green Street, Totterdown, to improve communications.

Community leaders, including the mosque's chair, Wasir Ali, escorted the teams round the mosque.

Ch Insp Andy Bennett said: "I think this will improve our quality of service with the Muslim community."

'Religious basics'

He added: "This is all part of the roll-out of Neighbourhood Policing, improving communications and links with all our different communities.

"The familiarisation session at the mosque was of great benefit to both us and the people at the mosque.

"It is all about improving our understanding of their religion, their community and the cultural differences. We also improved their knowledge of how the police work and how we may interact with them.

"We covered all the basics, for example when the religion was set up, the history and beliefs including prayer times and fasting.
