Spanish police arrest 2 on suspicion of recruiting volunteers for al-Qaida
MADRID, Spain: Spanish police have arrested two men on suspicion of having links with al-Qaida, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.
The men, named in the statement as Mohamed Laksir, 23, and Moulay Lahoucine Miftah Idrissi, 27, were detained in the northeastern port city of Barcelona on suspicion of belonging to and recruiting volunteers for a terror organization.
Recruits would have been sent for training in terror activities in Africa's dry Sahel region south of the Sahara Desert, the statement said.
The two suspects are believed to have belonged to a cell which also promoted radical Islamic precepts, the statement said.
