DAR AL HARB/ISLAM - U.S.A./IRAQ: THE ISLAMIC STATE OF IRAQ TAUNTS THE UNITED STATES

Insurgent group taunts Bush over war funding

DUBAI: A militant umbrella group in Iraq taunted US President George W Bush yesterday, saying his success at securing vital funding for US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan was futile and would “not heal wounds”. “Do not take joy in the money allocated to your soldiers. This will not heal wounds and will not advance anything,” the Islamic State of Iraq said in a statement posted on an Internet website often used by militants. President Bush will soon sign a multi-billion dollar Iraq war budget after the US Congress bowed to White House pressure and gave its approval. “What you aimed for with your final push (of troops) has became nothing but empty talk. The battleground is witness to this,” added the statement, whose authenticity could not be immediately confirmed.

Washington in January announced a military ‘surge’ in Iraq, deploying more than 21,500 additional troops, bringing the total to 160,000 by June.
