Letter: Islamic terrorists are trying to take over world
To the editor,
Mr. David Huskey, there is no error in stating that the heinous acts of al-Qaida and the Taliban awoke Americans to the phenomena of many terrorist factions cooperating with proponents of a worldwide, radical, Islamic fascist ideology built on lies.
Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban, al-Qaida, Islamic jihad, and the Muslim Brotherhood all espouse the destruction of the United States and Israel and the construction of a worldwide Muslim caliphate under Sharia law. This was their goal long before we entered Iraq. Leaving Iraq will not stop them from killing our citizens, nor will it end the necessity of the U.S. military to wage this war.
Mr. Huskey, the communists killed 2.5 million Vietnamese after we let Saigon fall. One must also take notice that the Vietnamese had not attacked the contiguous United States nor were they trying to destroy our culture. If we leave Iraq in the manner currently proposed by Congress, the transpiring slaughter in Iraq will largely transcend the innocent lives lost in Vietnam. Where is your concern for innocent Iraqis now?
This war is about so much more than Iraq! This is a worldwide war against radical Islamic fascists with the stated goals of destroying our way of life and our nation. The soldiers dying now do so for our freedom and the nearly 3,000 United States citizens killed in the World Trade Center.
The Iraqi majority wants to live in a free society, not a theocracy, if you give credence to the elections. In Iran also, 75 percent of the populace would choose a free society over the current theocracy, according to most analysts.
Our presence in Iraq is Iraq's only hope of ruling themselves in a free society, and the same will be true anywhere else we may fight these terrorists. We must find ways to counter the Wahabi (Islamic fundamentalist) propaganda and indoctrination of Muslim youth across the world. To suggest that we are imposing our values on Muslims in liberating them implies Muslims value their own subjugation.
Our nation's security is directly affected by our policies in the entire Middle East. Our nation's future will be determined by the manner we fight radical Islam's onslaught and terrorism by any name, be it Islamic jihad, al-Qaida, Taliban, Sunni or Shia, Hezbollah or Hamas, or the Muslim Brotherhood.
Our Congress' defeatist posture sends the wrong message across the world!
