US to build 'security wall' around Sunni area of Baghdad
The US military is coming in for major criticism over a massive wall it is building around a Sunni Muslim area of Baghdad.
The Sunni enclave is surrounded by Shi'ite communities and the US says the wall is designed to protect local residents from possible sectarian attacks by Shi'ite militias.
However, the residents say they did not approve the project and believe it is a "collective punishment" being imposed on Sunnis because the anti-American insurgency is made up mainly of Sunni fighters.
The are surrounded by the wall would be accessible only through gates manned by Iraqi soldiers.
