Head of the National Security Committee and Foreign Policies in the Iranian Parliament, Alielddin Bordjerdi, announced on Wednesday that Iran is looking into the possibility of participating in the Sharm Elsheikh Conference to discuss the situation in Iraq, scheduled to hold in May.
Bordjerdi, who is currently visiting Bulgaria upon the invitation of Head of the Relations and Foreign Policies Committee in the Bulgarian Parliament, Slimon Bassih, told Kuwait News Agency KUNA that "all are aware that Iran is one of the founders of the neighboring countries to Iraq group." He added, "The reconstruction of Iraq is an issue that concerns Iran, in addition to other neighboring countries, but in the absence of security and stability in Iraq, the reconstruction process remains a dream. Therefore efforts should join to secure Iraq domestically." On the issue of the Iranian nuclear file, the Iranian official said that his visit coincides with the launch of negotiations between Iran and the EU envoy, Javier Solana.
"We hope the talks would reach a solution and an agreement that would guarantee stability of relations with the EU," he said.
Bordjerdi added, that his country seeks developing relations with the EU, and that agreements signed between the Iranian government and Austria reflected Iran's intentions of promoting the relations and maintaining peace.
On the issue of Iranian-Bulgarian relations, he added that Iran is keen on promoting the ties with the EU in various fields, in the political, economic and trade sectors.
