Imam sides with Catholic bishops on civil unions
Perugia, Apr. 5, 2007 (CWNews.com) - An Islamic leader in Perugia, Italy, has expressed his support for the Catholic Church leadership in its opposition to the legal recognition of same-sex unions.
"We are for the natural family, between a man and a woman," the imam said. He argued that the government should only offer legal recognition to traditional marriages. While individuals involved in other unions already have legal rights, he said, their relationships do not deserve special protection. Stressing the importance of marriage, he said, "Should someone choose a different road, they do so privately."
Addressing the question of polygamy within the Isamic tradition, the imam said that polygamy "is also a private choice." He said that polygamy is rarely practiced in Italy, with "less than 100 cases" among the Muslims living there.
Though polygamy is 'rarely' practiced, that too will change with time and when it does moslems engaged in such marriages will demand that the government acknowledge it if not, Rome & Italy will burn as the French suburbs burned in 2005...
Such burnings will become a more frequent occurrence as the jihad in Europe grows...
