Saudi Arabia as a superpower?

WHAT exactly is it that makes a superpower a superpower? When you think of a superpower, the inclination would be to lean towards the United States, the only remaining superpower in the world.
Back in the days of the Cold War one could have included the former Soviet Union, the other superpower, though one that never quite made it. France and Great Britain, although they are nuclear powers were never superpowers in the real sense. At best they were “Mini Me” versions of the mega-superpower, the United States.
But can Saudi Arabia aspire to become a superpower? Indeed, the Desert Kingdom is rapidly emerging as the new superpower kid on the Middle East bloc – at least in a political sense.
