Author to discuss future of Islam

After the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, Islam was thrust to the media's forefront. Negative stereotypes grew from al-Qaeda's actions, even though the terrorist group did not represent the beliefs of the entire Muslim community.
Author, scholar and media analyst Reza Aslan will help Western Illinois University students separate the facts from the fictions and the truths from the lies. He will present "No god but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 in Western Hall.
The talk, a part of the University Theme Speaker Series titled "Global Challenges and Personal Responsibility-Cultural Diversity," is free to the public.
In the presentation, which is based on his book of the same name, Aslan approaches Islam from historical, cultural and political perspectives. He describes the religion's origins and traces its evolution over the centuries.

Islam films slated for late April
The Muslim Students Association and the Saudi Students House at Carnegie Mellon University will present two films on Islam.
"Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet" is a portrait of Islam's founder, based on historical records and modern interpretations by followers.
The film takes viewers into American Muslims' homes, mosques and workplaces, then journeys to ancient Middle Eastern sites.
The film will be shown Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Room 1112 at Doherty Hall.
"Islam: Empire of Faith," an exposition of Islamic art, artifacts and architecture combined with interviews with scholars from around the world to recount the rise of early Islamic civilization,

As you think about these articles, take into consideration that these 18-22 yr old minds full of mush will be the 'leaders of tomorrow'...
Consider how these movies & lectures will predispose them to think that islam is benign, because you know very well that these events will paint the picture that ISLAM IS REALLY THE RELIGION OF PEACE & THAT IT IS THE INFIDELS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM...
