UK's Liberal Democrat leader vows to represented "frustrated majority"
LONDON, March 2 (KUNA) -- Britain's opposition Liberal Democrats are going to get angry on behalf of Britain's "frustrated majority", party leader Sir Menzies Campbell pledged Friday.
As activists gathered for the party's Spring conference in Harrogate, northern England, this weekend, Sir Menzies conceded in a statement that his first year as leader had only taken them as far as "base camp".
...
"Last year was about stability, next year is about voicing the anger on behalf of the British people," he declared.
"There will be a change in the party nationally and in my leadership. It is time that someone spoke up for the frustrated majority.
"In the next year I will personally lead parliamentary campaigns and speak for the frustrated majority. This is what Britain needs and deserves.
"People are right to be angry about the level of crime in their community; right to be angry about the Government snooping and interfering in their lives, right to be angry about council tax and the lack of affordable housing and right to be angry about increasing inequality and poverty.
"This is the Blair/Brown legacy," he added.
The main opposition Conservatives could not hope to address those issues because party leader David Cameron was "determined to copy Tony Blair", he continued.
The Liberal Democrat leader launched a fresh attack on Labour's anti-crime record, the subject he has put at the heart of the forthcoming election campaign.
Only his party offered "workable, positive and practical solutions that cut crime and support victims," Sir Menzies insisted. (end) he.
