Dialogue between Europe and Muslim world main topic at Euro-Med meeting
The President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pottering will attend the third annual plenary session of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) that will take place in Tunis on Saturday.
Intercultural dialogue between Europe and the Islamic world will be a main topic of the agenda.
This topic was proposed by Pottering in the last meeting of the EMPA Bureau in February as "a way to build real bridges between both sides of the Mediterranean", according to a statement issued by his office.
In addition to Intercultural Dialogue EMPA is also to discuss a report on the implementation of the code of conduct on the fight against terrorism.
The EP President, Gunter Gloser, German Minister for European Affairs, and Amr Moussa, Secretary General of Arab States League, will speak at the opening session.
Other speakers include Marc Otte, Ambassador - EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.
Germany currently holds the rotating EU Presidency.
The EMPA plenary session consists of 120 parliamentarians from the European Union (of whom 45 of the European Parliament) and 120 parliamentarians from national parliaments of the non-EU Mediterranean countries.
Euromed partnership today covers 37 countries.
