Muslim leaders mull replacing Sheikh Hilali
The first conference of the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) has voted to set up two committees to determine their spiritual leader or mufti.
The meeting was held in Sydney's south-west yesterday and 50 Muslim clerics gathered from around the country to decide the future of the current Mufti, Sydney's Sheikh Taj el-Din Al Hilali.
The council was set up after comments made by Sheikh Al Hilali last year compared some scantily clad women to uncovered meat.
ANIC spokesman, Dr Mohammed Abdalla from Queensland's Griffith University, says Sheikh Al Hilali will remain as Mufti while consultations are held.
"The present position of a Mufti shall stay for the next three months, at least until the Muslims of Australia decide how to take this thing forward," he said.
"They will thoroughly consult with the Islamic community of Australia and that for each state to nominate a person from amongst the Muslims of various states to become a member of the Council of Fatwa," he said.
"The council then between themselves will nominate a leader or a mufti."
Dr Abdalla says Sheikh Al Hilali has not said if he will nominate for the position.
Another 3 months, kicking the ball further down the road so the Australian dhimmis memories can over time forget anything ever happened and Sheikh Al Hilalir will continue his preaching, etc...
