US warns against Islamic insurgency in Turkey
The United States has warned its nationals of an insurgency threat in Turkey.
A State Department report said the Islamic insurgency has been emerging throughout Turkey.
The report said this has included Istanbul, regarded as the largest city in the country.
"Indigenous and international terrorist groups are operating in Turkey, including in the Istanbul area," a report, entitled "Turkey 2007 Crime & Safety Report: Istanbul," said.
The State Department said groups deemed terrorists have turned their attention to Western and U.S. targets. The report said Turkish insurgents have been frequently detonating so-called sound bombs.
