DAR AL HARB - U.S.A. - WISCONSIN: NO MORE SUPPORT FOR THE "DECIDER"?!?! IS THIS CHEESEHEAD RIGHT?!?

Letters: War in Iraq supports Bin Laden terror strategy

The premise that "we must fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" is a misused sound bite of propaganda that is simply not true. It is because we chose to "fight over there," that our military resources are now exhausted and al-Qaida has moved into Iraq to become stronger than ever.

The 9-11 Commission reported that before 9-11, there was no credible evidence of an operational connection between al-Qaida and Iraq. During the run-up to the invasion, bin Laden sent a letter to the Iraqi people urging them to prepare for a long struggle against "crusaders who will occupy Islam's former capitals, loot Muslim riches, and install a stooge regime to follow its masters in Washington." Thousands of Arab volunteers responded.

Bush continues to act as bin Laden anticipates with his new plan for a "surge." Osama bin Laden has openly said that his goal is to "provoke and bait" the US into "bleeding wars" throughout the Islamic world to bankrupt it. Bush's choice to "fight over there" has been a gift to al-Qaida and placed the US in a position of weakness.

Given this administration's complete mismanagement in Iraq, there is no reason to believe that Bush's "surge" is not the worst of all possible plans offered by the Iraq Study Group, military advisors, scholars, and legislators (Democrats and Republicans alike). He offers no definition of "winning," no benchmarks for success, and no timetable (although he has said that Iraq will be the next president's problem). Now he asks our elected officials to trust him and give him support.

A large majority of the American public no longer trusts this administration and there should be no more support for the "decider."
