Iraqi Shiites Warn Palestinians To Leave

Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Palestinian Arabs living in Iraq, once the honored guests of the former regime, have become one of the primary targets of local Shiite militias that are also battling the U.S.-led forces occupying the country.
Iraqi police officials cited by London's Sunday Telegraph said the Palestinians, most of whom are Sunni Muslims, have become the desired prey of extremist groups that are suffering major setbacks at the hands of joint U.S.-Iraqi military forces.
Chief among those groups is the Mahdi Army of popular Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
Mahdi Army spokesman Sheikh Mahmoud al-Hassani said the Palestinians, who entered the country as the guests of former dictator Saddam Hussein, are not trusted by the nation's Shiite population.
"We are sure that all the Palestinians in Iraq are involved in killing the Shiite people and they have to pay the price now," he told the Telegraph.
Hassani further noted that during his reign, Saddam Hussein made a point of dispossessing his Shiite rivals for the benefit of the Palestinians.
"They (the Palestinians) lived off our blood under Saddam," he said. "We were hungry with no food and they were comfortable with full bellies. They should leave now, or they will have to pay."
