US troops targeting Iranian agents inside Iraq

WASHINGTON - The US military has permission to capture or kill Iranian agents operating inside neighbouring Iraq, the Washington Post reported Friday.
Citing government officials with ‘direct knowledge,’ the newspaper said that US President George W Bush has ordered aggressive action to counter Iranian influence inside war-torn Iraq.
US troops were given authority in mid-2006 to pursue the tougher policy against Iranian operatives.
Under the previous policy, dozens of Iranian agents had been captured by US forces in Iraq but mostly released within a few days, after biometric identifying data was gathered, the Post reported.
