Iran's main nuclear goals materialized: Saeedi
Iran has achieved main parts of its nuclear goal that is access to peaceful nuclear technology by relying on God and efforts made by its experts, despite multilateral sanctions imposed against it, an official said here Wednesday.
Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for International Affairs Mohammad Saeedi made the remark while addressing a conference of headquarters in charge of holding the `Ten-Day Dawn' celebrations (February 1-10), marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution).
"Access to nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear fuel production know-how, technical know-how on production of heavy water and production of light water are the main four nuclear goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of nuclear technology," he said.
He added, "Access to nuclear fuel know-how, as the heart of nuclear technology in the world, was the first aim which was achieved in March 2006.
"What is known as nuclear technology is possession of a technology to produce nuclear fuel and construct nuclear power plants.
"On this basis, access to nuclear fuel know-how has been planned and ordered to the AEOI despite all its complications," he said.
He stated, "Access to a know-how on production of nuclear fuel was the second goal. With respect to all problems facing Iran during the past 35 years, we were obliged to lead all potentials of the country towards a specific direction."
"It was a very difficult task following threats, sanctions and international sensitivities." Saeedi noted that access to technical know-how in production of heavy water and its reactor was the third goal, saying, "In nuclear technology, there are two methods for fuel production and construction of complicated heavy water facilities."
"Except for the US and Russia which have applied both methods from the beginning, other countries choose just one direction.
"We had no option but to choose both methods because the future has not been clear to us. We passed the two ways successfully." The IAEO official stated, "Access to technical know-how on production of light water reactor was the fourth aim." He stressed, "Other nuclear goals of the country will be materialized in the near future."
Does this mean that Iran has all it needs to produce a nuke now?!? I don't know, but it sounds ominuous of you ask me...
