Student joins suit against football coach
By Renée Ruelas-Venegas For the Sun-News

LAS CRUCES — Another former New Mexico State University football player is seeking to join a civil lawsuit that claims religious discrimination against Muslims by head coach Hal Mumme.
On Friday, Jacob Wallace, a former running back from the 2002 through 2005 seasons, asked to be added as a plaintiff.

In August, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against NMSU and Mumme, alleging three former football players were discriminated against because they are Muslim.

The original complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Las Cruces on behalf of former players Mu'Ammar Ali, Anthony Thompson and Vincent Thompson.

Wallace is not listed in the NMSU football media guide, but he is listed on the NMSU Web site as being a transfer from Fresno State in 2003.

Like Ali and the Thompson twins, Wallace claims that during the 2005-2006 football season he was subjected to an environment that was actively hostile to his religion.
