DAR AL HARB-U.S.A.-LOUISIANA: PROSELYTIZING TO CHRISTIANS

Demystifying the Muslim faith

...

Hesham Tillawi, originally of Palestine, has lived in Lafayette for 23 years. As the politically active and highly visible host of the often controversial Current Issues political TV talk show that airs on the Acadiana Open Channel, he would seem a more likely target for hate-mongers than most local Muslims. To the contrary, though, he describes his experience as a Muslim in Lafayette as "wonderful."

"If anything, I have found the people here to be curious about us and interested in learning more about our culture," he says. "Muslims in Acadiana are blessed to be living among such respectful people.”

Tillawi says his experience of living in Dallas was totally different.

"I relate to the Cajuns because of what they had to endure with the exile from Nova Scotia. Similarly, Palestinians were forced to leave their country," he says.

Tillawi contends that not only does this shared history of oppression in the Cajun and Middle Eastern cultures help Arabic Muslims fit in here in Acadiana, but the many similarities between the Catholic and Muslim religions foster mutual understanding between locals of the two faiths.

"I think it's good that we have Muslims living here so that local residents have the opportunity to interact with them and not just rely on what they hear. Don't rely on what you hear on Fox News, and don't believe what you read on the Internet. If you want to learn about Muslims, read the Quran, and ask a local Muslim to help you understand."

If people believe this bullshit, they deserve what they will get and they will get it, it is just a matter of time...
