MP CALLS ON POLICE IN MOSQUE ROW
An MP has called for a police investigation into claims that extremist views were preached by an imam at mosques in Derby and Birmingham.
Roger Godsiff, the Labour MP for the Sparkbrook and Small Heath areas of Birmingham, has written to the chief constable of West Midlands Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions urging them to take action.
He has also put down an early day motion in Parliament for other MPs to sign, which makes similar calls.
The claims were made in a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary which was aired on Monday night.
An undercover reporter attended the the Ahl-e-Hadith mosque, in Hastings Street, Normanton, and the Green Lane Mosque, in Small Heath, Birmingham, and filmed visiting preachers apparently promoting extremist views. Mr Godsiff said what appeared in the documentary could not be misinterpreted and showed "speakers using highly derogatory and racist language against non-Muslims".
Derbyshire police said they were liaising with West Midlands police about the claims.
