Russia condemns US raid on Iranian consulate in Arbil
Russian Foreign Ministry by issuing a statement on Friday called the US troops raid on an Iranian consulate in the city of Arbil, north of Iraq, " absolutely unacceptable" and " Violation of international law."
It said, "The US forces action is an abuse of the UN Security Council authorization to the multi-national forces to provide security in Iraq."
According to the authorization, assistance to provide security for foreign diplomatic representatives in Iraq is a part of multi-national forces duties.
Concerning illegal arrest of Iranian diplomats in the building, which the Americans have called "prevention of terrorist support", the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said proving such heavy accusation needs solid and firm evidence."
