MAJOR fraud police and investigators from the Department of Education, Science and Training have today raided three Islamic colleges in Perth.

It is understood the raids, which started at 9am, relate to allegations of fraud committed through student subsidy funding programs.

It is believed police are investigating claims that the colleges were inflating the student numbers when claiming subsidies.

Sgt Graham Clifford confirmed search warrants had been executed at Australian Islamic Colleges in Kenwick, Thornlie and Dianella, as well as an administration building in Booragoon and other premises linked to the colleges.

Sgt Clifford said police had seized "three truckloads'' of information, including computer equipment.

He said the warrants were executed as part of ongoing fraud squad investigations to confirm whether any offences had been committed and to quantify the level and amount of any fraud.
