Sharia law for Sydney (Australia not Sydney)
A RADICAL Indonesian who calls US President George W. Bush a terrorist and wants Australia ruled by Sharia law is the headline act at a Muslim conference in Sydney this weekend.
Extremist group Hizb-ut-Tahrir - which was banned from holding the conference at Bankstown town hall - has now booked a function centre in Canterbury Rd, Lakemba for Sunday.
Key guest speaker Ismail Yusanto is the group's Indonesian chairman and has repeatedly called for Western leaders to be jailed or executed for the "invasion'' of Iraq.
"US President George Bush and British Premier Tony Blair must both be labelled as terrorists and warmongers,'' Mr Yusanto reportedly said in one outburst.
In another, he demanded Indonesia cut all ties with Australian interests.
"We call on the Indonesian Government to sever all ties - diplomatic and economic - with the United States and its allies such as Britain and Australia,'' he said.
"To close their embassies, expel their diplomats and to take over their companies and assets.''
Mr Yusanto is considered an extremist in his native Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country.
He is best known for advocating the introduction of strict Sharia law and is expected to outline how this would be achieved in Australia during his visit to Sydney.
He has called for discos to be shut in Indonesia during the holy month of Ramadan.
"All kinds of wicked activities have to be shut down for the entire month,'' he said.
The victory of the militant group Hamas in last year's Palestinian elections was met with dismay by democratic leaders - but not Mr Yusanto.
"This is great,'' he was quoted as saying in the Manila Times.
"The Palestinians have spoken and they want someone to continue the struggle against Israel.''
