Muslim youth in Providence for conference
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Hundreds of young Nigerian Muslims are in Providence today for the National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations in the U-S-A Platform 2006 conference.
The four-day event covers the challenges of Muslim living, including finances, careers and home life. There also will be quiz competitions, basketball games and entertainment.
It's the sixth anniversary of the conference, which is designed for children who range from age ten to high-school age. Last year's program in Providence drew more than 200 youth.
The organization has 13 chapters, including in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington D-C. The group says it tries to promote cooperation, unity and the propagation of Islam.
