Indictment: Man planned gun, ammo sale in Iran
Associated Press
DETROIT - A Florida man accused of trying to export weapons to Iran after a search of his luggage at Detroit Metropolitan Airport turned up stun guns, rifle ammunition and other prohibited items has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit.
Fereidoon Kariman, 49, an Iranian citizen and a permanent U.S. resident, was bound for Teheran. He was arrested Nov. 19 after arriving on a flight from Orlando, where he lives.
Baggage checked under his name in Florida contained two Uzi stun guns, several boxes of bullets, rifle scopes, high-powered binoculars and a laser sight, among other items, federal officials told The Detroit News.
He told federal agents that he planned a hunting trip in Iran but also planned to sell half the items, according to a court affidavit. Kariman was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
