USA-WASHINGTON D.C.: "MODERATION" THE ONLY THING THAT WILL PROTECT ISLAMIC SOCIETY

‘Moderation sole approach to protect Islamic society’; Al-Maatouq opens IMC confab in US

WASHINGTON (KUNA): Kuwaiti Minister of Justice and Minister of Religious Endowments and Is-lamic Affairs Abdallah Al-Maatouq said here Saturday that moderation was the sole approach to protect Islamic societies from the risks of lawlessness and extremism. Addressing the opening session of the second Islamic Moderation Conference, Al-Maatouq said the event was part of a series of his ministry’s activities to promote moderation. He said the United States was specifically selected to hold the conference for apparent reasons pointing out the September 11 attacks and their grave and destructive impacts.

“Destruction can take place when scholars and intellectuals let go of their duties, allowing extremists to take the initiative and letting them take over leadership to enforce their narrow, defective perspective. “We came here to say that the true leaders of the Islamic nation are the sane scholars and intellectuals, rather than the crazy insolent people,” the minister asserted. “The Muslim societies and Muslim minorities worldwide attribute high importance to the conference,” he added. Al-Maatouq urged the conferees to work out “a civilized Islamic project that goes in line with the noble message of Islam.” He called on the American Muslims to prove confidently to all others that they are “good citizens who oppose treason and destruction thanks to their religious commitment.”
