USA-NEW YORK: MOSLEM WOMEN LAUNCHING MOVEMENT OF EMPOWERMENT

Muslim Women Leaders Launch Global Movement

Muslim Wakeup!, Nov 16, 2006

NEW YORK – Prominent Muslim women from worldwide are meeting in New York City from Nov. 17-19 to launch a movement to empower Muslim women in their communities, reports the online publication Muslim Wakeup! The meeting, named Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equity (WISE), will provide a forum for discussing Muslim women's issues and a platform for asserting women's rights in accordance with Islamic law. Through a faith-based activism, the group plans to challenge local customs that violate women's rights and develop methods to change negative views of Muslim women. The event is seen as historic in asserting the rights of Muslim women and creating a coherent movement to connect Muslim women.

Do these women have a special copy of the qur'an and sunnah?!? I mean honestly, the dead giveaway that this effort is going to be flushed down the toilet is in the bolded sentence:

..."for discussing Muslim women's issues and a platform for asserting women's rights in accordance with Islamic law"...

Honestly, women have almost ZERO rights when it comes to the qur'an and sunnah, the two sources that Islamic Law, aka shari'ah, has drawn on...

Dear American Infidel,

Have you personally studied the Qur'an and the Shariah? If not, then you will be surprised to find out that what many understand as obligations of the Islamic faith are no more than social and cultural customs. For example, it is never said in the Qur'an that women cannot be religious or spiritual leaders or that they do not have the ability to interpret the faith as religious scholars or jurists. These are all misconceptions that have been created and propagated by patriarchical interpretations of the faith. Furthermore, what is denoted as Shariah are only about 600 verses from the Qur'an and 1,200 hadith that refer to positive law and does not include the commentary nor religious laws created by many religious scholars over the years.

I would greatly encourage you to study the faith and take a deeper look into its message, its principles and values.
